Harley call them 'service packs' as it just fixes stuff that didn't work.

I rode the '10 883 at last year's launch and I liked it.

It is your basic motorcycle. No adornments extras palaver or anything unnecessary.

    That works for me.

I rode 4 units in all - one had slightly woody brakes - possibly in need of a bleed - The rest of them were as sweet as. Good stoppers.

If you want a no bull bike - pretty cheap at the moment too.

Personally, the new Road King with the 103 cube is one of my bike of the year contenders.

Just been reading this thread on ADVrider http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636687 - I've seen the Life photos before, but the comments are interesting.Sportsters were a popular bike in the '60's,if you wanted a fast Harley,a Sporty was the only way to go.No girls bike if it was the HA's bike of choice.

Let's watch the first dork come in with the negative comments - who will it be?

Right - that's off my chest.

I personally highly rate the Sportsters and recent additions like the Nightster and 48 only add to the appeal. However the 883 is indeed a gutless motor best ignored - go straight to the 1200 Heck many of the 883's you see being sold have had a 1200cc kit fitted, those poor owners should have shelled out the small extra cost of getting the 1200 in the first place and spent the balance of $ they put towards the big bore kit on some decent suspension.

Just an opinion. Ride the 1200 before signing up the 883.

Girls bike - pifffff, pass me a leather mini skirt then, I rate the Sporster.
dont forget to post a pic of yourself in that leather skirt. Make sure you've shaved your legs this time.
Oh, yeah. I'd have one (a Nightster) in a heartbeat

I rode a 883 low back to back with a S50 suzuki, the suzi was a better ride than the 883.
The girl who owned them both owned the 883 & then brought the suzi & sold the 883.
The 1200 nightster is a vast improvement over the 883 imho & if in the market for a good looking machine would be hard to pass up.

Spoken like a true ...... have ya tried riding something that feels like it wants to throw it's rods up into yr crutch but doesn't (often), yet ?

but really the only 'negative' is the vibration, and that is just the awesomeness of the v-twin.

thats why I sent you a pm. Make me an offer I can't refuse ....and one my wife can't either lol
A wise man took my snotty, bad handling, old FXR out for the first time a few weeks back and if my memory recall is any good , his words were, "It's hard to describe, but it was more like being at an event than going for a ride" . Word has it, he has a few on his TM watchlist now.

Not saying it's you, but i'd take the 1200 out and try it (being a tall bugga) the skirtsta..... i mean 883 used to be lower back when i rode a 1200, not sure about now. Don't sound like all the hype about more power when ya kit an 883, is what your about, so it would be wise to try one just to feel (if any) the difference !

As for the classic looking 48, a mate just nabbed an old 69 off TM to add to his collection (one of only two in the country i believe) Now that is a cool looking bike !

Yeah fuckin dirty wollowing pigs of things !
I spent friggin hours yesterday ripping the forks down to fit emulators in em and then found i had progressives anyway (Yeah previous owner had it pretty well set up, but i thought id try these new fangled emulator thingies)
Then had to get all dirty and greasy/fluidy stripping the back brakes out to replace crap that had gunged up, just so i could do skids all the way to New Plymouth, so Mr RT can replace the bullshit shocks that just aint quite lasted the 20 yrs, jeeesus it grates me when shit dont last !
    What's bloody next ?
Will i have to replace the clevebloc bushings in the swingarm to spherical bearings to get this pig to go around corners at the ton without trying to buck me off ? I think probably not !
But i just bloody might bwahahahaha !
Then maybe 2" overs in front so i gots me another 1/4 inch clearance under the frame (before i wear a bloody hole through it)
All this just so it's ready to ride in.......... What date is Mothers day racing at Manfeild ?
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
