what do you guys think of getting a 400 and slapping some 250 stickers on it?

Its crossed my mind recently that your prob better off getting a 400 when you hit say restricted or some experience learners, the 400dollar fine is a hell of a lot less than the inflation of "learner legal" bikes. but the demerits add up and they = no license.

I met someone who went to a vfr400 on his Learners and he just keeps the rego in his pocket and says he "just got it re registered (officer) and hasn't put it on yet" worked well enough he said.
If I get a 400 that's wrapped in plastic will it cover the barrel or are there very obvious places that the fuzz can look?

    Go for your life then.

If it all goes pear shaped, don't forget to come back here so we can have a laugh at your expense.

Fantastic. Now that we've agreed on that think about this:

    Scenario 1)
    You get stopped.
    You're riding a CBR400 with CBR250 decals on it.
    Cop checks your licence (restricted)
Cop checks the bikes rego (CBR400)

    Scenario 2)
    You get stopped
    You're riding a CBR400 with CBR400 decals on it.
    Cop checks your licence (restricted)
Cop checks the bikes rego (CBR400)

Which scenario do you think you might be able to talk your way out of?

If you don't want to into grief with 'the blue bottles' then just don't ride like an arse.

You could always pull off 2 spark plug leads and say it was a 200...

If you want to ride something faster than the GN250, go the zxr250 or cbr250. They're heaps of fun to ride in the city and open road (and the twisties according to Toast) or if you want go megalighting speed, the RS250 or NSR250 and you'll still be legal.

Well, scenario 1 is the only one I might have a chance talking my way out of, but I'm a crap lier! What would I say, "oh, umm, yeah those bloody government agencies and their typos" I doubt that's likely to work, especially with a government agent.
though, I could flick a 250 sign over the 400 and hopefully road dirt would camouflage the lines. I might get off without any need to explain myself, but that's just hypothosis. Before they step out of their car they must run your plate through the computer and have the details of the vehicle attatched to it?

scenario 2, I wouldn't have a chance. Does honesty work on cops? Hopefully i'd run into a female officer and, well, you know how it goes, show a little skin here and there . Might get off lightly, worth a shot isn't it?

I got pulled on Manchester St in ChCh the other night. Cost me $80 and she didn't even ask my name or check my licence. Told me I had to wear protection though.

Don't do it. Stoopid, stoopid, stoopid.

Mate to be honest your worries should be about getting a bike thats too powerful for your abilities, that'll kill you, the police will just hurt your wallet. If you dont ride like a dick they wont pull you over.

I'm sorry, I regret to inform you that you're too dumb to to ride a bike.
Please surrender your licence at the nearest police station.
    Kind Regards.

I've owned a ZXR before, unfortunately it only took me a month before I ran out of interest.
I'm not to keen on a 2 strokes as the people I've spoken to who've owned one don't suggest them as commuters. Though there may be those who have differing oppinions and I would deffinately like to hear from them on the matter.
