I know I shouldn't be judgemental, and that everyone is free to make their own choice with safety gear, but I just can't stop myself cringing when I see people with what I feel is inadequate protection.
I was on the Northern Motorway (aka 100km/h) in the weekend near Onewa Road on the North Shore of Auckland, and I see a rider and pillion.
The rider was decked out. Cordura style jacket and pants. Helmet, gloves and a high viz vest. Boots. Fine.
The pillion was wearing a short skirt (and don't ask me for pictures) and jandals. Effectively almost all of their bare legs was exposed.
And I had to cringe. Cringe at what would happen if someone with bare legs came off at 100km/h and went for a slide on the motorway. If both legs hit the ground they would probably end up with an AIS score of 6 - being fatal. You generally can't survive severe injuries to two limbs at the same time.
I think I cringed at the thought of the resulting damage to that human body.
Anything made you cringe lately?
