American ST1300 Rider Touring NZ Jan - March 2011

GoGal and and I are heading to ride the USA for a couple of months next July, and we have organised a "Bike swap" with an Honda ST rider from the USA, - Joe from West Virginia.

Joe is a retired mining Engineer who has ridden extensively, including an epic Europe tour earlier this year.(Another ST swap)

He picks up my bike in January and has 6 weeks riding NZ (Lucky bastard), while I'm sizzling in Bahrain for another 6 months.

Joe is camping as much as he can, plus the occasional Motel.

Then in July, Joe hands the keys over to his ST1300 for GoGal and I for a couple of months. Actually Joe kindly offered his Volusia as a second bike - which I thought was pretty generous of him.

So if you see my red ST (KB sticker on screen and COCAR plate) cruising the country say a friendly Kiwi "Gidday Mate".

I'm putting together some suggestions for 6 weeks on the bike, 2 weeks NI, 4 weeks SI - makes you realise how many great roads we have here!

Next I'll suss out some Rallys which may coincide.

    Have fun Joe!

Thanks Pete, I am so looking forward to this trip. Only 5 weeks until departure!! I've never been south of the equator and it will be nice to avoid some of the winter here in the US. We are getting a major snow storm here as I type.........

Hey there, if you need a nice comfortable bed and a hot shower at any time just north of Auckland, feel free to get in touch. We love hosting overseas biker tourists. Lovely and warm here at the moment, we are looking forward to a high of around 85F today.

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Let us know when you are planning to be in the Bay of Plenty, I might be able to spend a day or riding with you.

Mr Shafty should be able to give you a pretty comprehensive list of roads to ride.
