Want to get into post classic racing and have ratty 1973-75 RD350 in the shed

    Hey guys,
I'm not 100% sure how post classic racing works, but i already race classic bikes and am very keen to start.
I have a very ratty Yamaha RD350 in the shed and was thinkin about splashing out a bit and geting her ready to race. but i was wondering if an RD350 would be competitve at all or if its jst better to buy a new ready to go post classic racer???

and if the RD350 is a gud idea, would anyone know were to get expansion chambers for one??

cheers, I really appricate any help
    Hugh

    I don't imagine so - it's not exactly a TZ.

I'm sure there's less painstaking options.

yea, just looked it up and it will be in pre 82 class, so i think it will just be better to buy sumthing like a gpz550 or RGV250 to start on?. whats a preti reliable but mid pack post classic racer? im not relly sure what to look for to be honest

Of those two, if you're not a fan of laborious rebuilds the GPZ would be the better choice. A couple of other options would be the XJ550 or GSX550.

go to a meeting and ask a few racers, there are heaps of choices. I have an rd350 lc, it is reliable and fast enough to ride round bikes it shouldnt be able to. dont let the 2 stroke thing put you off. talk to more people. maybe post in the racing section

Naaaa .. it would be competative with other RD350s .. I've been to classic meetings and been flag marshall occassionally .. RD350 are not competative ... except with each other ... they're not even mid-pack ...

Might be a good idea tho' .. get out on the track and see ... then if you like it/are good at it .. get something faster ..

cheers guys, really starting to like the look of the gpz's and as soon as exams are over and my other bikes sold, ill hopefully purchase one.

also I think ill get the RD350 in better shape if only to sell it on. every biker needs a couple of projects

what do you think of this?

Go to NZPCRA website and have a look at the rules. FZR600/CBR600. An XR500 can be ridden successfully! ZXR400s FZR400s, 2 stroke 250s......
Posties meeting at Hampton on Dec 11. Turn up and chat. Good luck.

    Posties

Mate, the great thing about Posties is that the place isnt smothered in would be wankers. Just show up on what you've got and have fun. If you want to run up the front its expensive, but if you get your kicks out of being out there and learning, then get in cheap and grow from there. I'll be at HD on my GS550, my third race meeting, and havn a blast. Matt, 109.
