Auckland to Nelson - don't want to ride alone

I am going to try take my 250cc nelson but don't want to ride alone. I am going for seasonal work and I have a house down there.

Anyone heading that way? I am trying to convince my friend to come in his car saying that there is heaps of European tourist chicks there.

Have 50 personalities... my mates seem to think I have about that number... they evidently work for me.

Just make sure all of them can ride a bike huh? Some of mine are pretty shit.

Longer solo rides are one of the finest experiences available to a motorcyclist

There's something sublime about wending your way down the highway alone that needs to be experienced. Do it solo mate.

+1 on that one. So is the start of a few or more days away, it feels strange not having to think about when to turn back home.

Having said that, riding with mates has it's benefits too.....

However, it's only 8 hours to Wellington and a couple of hours to Nelson from Picton so it's not quite a circumnavigation of the world even if it does feel daunting on a 250.
Make an adventure of it, get outside your comfort zone and pick a scenic route down (I can give you a couple of good suggestions).... stay overnight at the Whangmomona pub and take a couple of days to get to Wellington, take the scenic route to Nelson.
As long as your bike is in good order (get it serviced) it is very capable of getting there, buy some AA maps and see how many KBers you can get to meet on the way down.

    Have a ball.

You ride at the speed you want, stop when you want, ride off when you want. If you like the look of a pub and they have a room, you stay there. If you like the look of a hill, or a valley, you can stop and take a photo or just enjoy the view. If you like a piece of road, then turn back and ride it again. You never have to wonder why you can't see your mate's light in your mirror, get frustrated because the rider in front of you is nanaing through some fine corners or alternatively slows down to let you catch up.

Hmmm... I have some time up my sleeve today, might just go for a ride.

I know a great shortcut to get to Wellington. Just past Taupo turn left at the road saying "Napier", or alternatively head down the west coast and look for the forgotten highway. A couple of weeks ago I rode Nelson to Picton with my son (and you're right, riding with a good mate or 2 is hard to beat) and we took the Queen Charlotte road - it was raining, but fuck what a ride. I had a grin a metre wide when I left him at the ferry terminal for my ride back down the coast.
