Is VTNZ a Government thing or is it privately owned? The comments here regarding VTNZ basically going through the motions when issuing a wof are worrying Considering the current political climate with regard to road safety, fucken heads need to roll if the Govt is invovled.

VTNZ used to be Govt but was privatized awhile back (years ago) and is now owned by MTA

"VTNZ was privatised in 1999 and the Motor Trade Association purchased the company. VTNZ used to be known by its full name, Vehicle Testing New Zealand and chose to re-brand to the much more succinct "VTNZ" in 2004."

Some years ago, the MOT ran their own testing stations. If your town had one, then that was the only place allowed to issue Wofs. I think there came a point where this 'chain' was sold off and became VTNZ - essentially a privately owned franchise.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Well that probably explains it then - "get through as many vehicles as possible we have money to make!" Still not ideal though I would rather a WOF was done properly.

Only the speedo has to be illuminated,so you can see how fast you go after dark, that's what the WOF inspector told me.

Guys, just wanted to report back and say how great I'm feeling about being road legal again and a law abiding citizen with my new VTNZ wof. This way I know my vehicle is totally safe and i'm being looked after properly .

Oh btw- keep your eyes peeled out for a 20th anniversary 05 GSXR750 knee down around your local roundabout with fucked head bearings- that one's me!

No really, on a serious note I was pretty disgusted at the incompetence of VTNZ. I personally think for bikes that part of a WOF should include tyre pressure check... on a bike this is really important and could cause a lot of people to lose control should they not make a habit to pay attention to this, especially in the wet with an under inflated tyre. Another thing should be cracked clip ons which could easily occur after dropping a bike and could cause serious catastrophe should the bar detach from the steering column. 2 important areas that would constitute an actually safe WOF.

Koala Motors on Green Bay Rd used to give WOF's after hardly even looking at the bike. My mates used to take their trail bikes, XR's TT's etc there, no blinkers, no stop light, missing spokes, shit brakes, it didn't matter.
