Who has a recommendation or suggestion for transporting a bike?

I need to somehow get a bike from Dannevirke to Whangarei at least, any ideas?
    Ph numbers?
I'd love to just fly down and ride it back but just dont have the time.
    Help

Ring around a few of your local trucking companies - the ones that do long haul. You may find they have a truck coming home empty, or at least not full. In this case you could get the bike transported at a good rate.
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.

Ive tried a local bike shop, who suggested transrail, who put me through to someone else, to someone else, to someone else... They have a trucking firm that will do it for $100-120, if all packed up. So now I'm trying to track down packaging... awaiting a reply from a dannevirke bike shop.
What's the usual story? Boxed up, or tied to a pallet good enough?

Hercules!!! The NZ air force hires them out for $20 an hour and will throw in military ground support for no additional fee!!!

Oh..I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take this piss....

My brothers a two truck driver and they transport bikes around all the time. Might be a bit expensive tho.

If you like I will call him and ask for a quote.... Just let me know.

Just spoke to my brother - He reckons you should look up "Vehicle tranport" in the phone book and try and find a "returning" truck with little or nothing on the back. That way you may get a cheaper deal.

    Good luck.

That's all I bloody need... A hercules on my back lawn for a couple of months waiting for parts

Problem with the car transporters, they probably only come up as far as Auckland. Have emailed anyways.

Anyone just wanna ride her up for me? If I tell what it is you probably wont, though the location gives it away.

Dont use tranzrail please..... my mate used to work as a reefer specialist there and the stories that he told me everyday about shit getting damaged, lost, destroyed was mind blowing. Go for a trucking company instead.

Go and talk to John or Mark at Shaw motorcycles as they transport bikes around the country, I think they use Mana Transport. Mana are experienced in transporting bikes as a number of people in Wellington use them.

Try Freight Forwarders - they will often have trucks that are 'bouncing' home light or empty.

Otherwise try the likes of Mainfreight/Owens as they will sometimes take stuff as backfill for partially full trucks between cities.

Ring Complex Carriers - Alan Castles based in Dannevirke.....I will pm you the details.

You should be okay to find trucks like this as most full trucks are heading down country from Auckland to Wellington - you are more likely to find a partially full truck heading back the other way.....

If you are lucky - sometimes the furniture removal companies can do it cheap. I had my GSX250F transported from Wellington to AUckland for $90 use Efficient Carrying Company......was great

Best bet is the full monty if you want to be secure. Tyres off, rachet it down and wooden sided box......less chance of dings and easier to secure

They may also ask if the fuels been drained from the bike - so be prepared for that pain in the arse or start comming up with some inaccurate truths

Try Peter Baker Transport. They do all Red Baron's transport and got my bike from Blenheim to Auckland (when I broke down) for a great price and no hassles.
