I've noticed one who seems somewhat zealous. He often cruises round the bays on weekends.

Incidently I stopped by a police car lane splitting by the Kilbirnie lights once and asked if I was OK - they said yes so I'll keep that as a defence. These so called road rules here need sorting out. I mean the test asks what you would do if you met a large lump of wood in the road and couldn't ride around it. The first option is to ride around it - I mean that's the sort of woollly thinking we are having to deal with.

The nice officer of the law called it 'driving in a lane unavailable'...then he commended me on my riding as he had had to call ahead to catch me...he actually tried to follow me...which I thought was strange. If it's so bad then why even entertain following me?

I think as Katie said it, we are hot chicks on bikes, what male cop wouldn't want to pull us over?
Heaven won't have me and hell's afraid I'll take over

Same as everyone else. Do it frequently but always sensibly. Split past motorway patrol cars and never had an issue. Its all in the way you are riding. Obviously if your speed differential is far greater than the traffic around you then you're going to get pulled over. You just need to be sensible about it.

I assume that you have photographic evidence to back up your claims?

Nup, if he was going to make a mistake due to blood rushing to other extremities he wouldnt have known if you were wearing a helmet or not

What happened to you last night?

I suck at lane splitting too - I tried it once and hated it. There is one spot where 2 lanes merge that is truly awful even in a car, no one will give an inch! - I tried it on the bike and felt really uncomfortable doing it. I decided that I would rather ride the extra long way home with no traffic queues - same time to get home but a nice happy ride.

I think I had a cop in a car chase me for lane splitting once. First he pointed his finger at me (his mum obviously never taught HIM it's rude to point - perhaps mine could give her some parenting advice) but I didn't see him do that and continued on my merry way, so he jumped in his car and chased me with lights and sirens. Luckily, I didn't see that either or I might have been late home for dinner!
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

OK on a serious note, I DID get pulled over for lane splitting (wrongly).

Read thread here, it's dated back in 2007.
