Bike only running on hot start

My bike only starts and runs when i pull the hot start lever, ive had the carb cleaned by a motorcycle shop. As soon as i let go of the lever it dies.

Any suggestions ? (This is for Yamaha 2003 YZF450)

Could it be the vavle clearence ?

I also have to keep the choke out is well as the hot start lever. (But this could be because i haven't let it warm up.)

    Sounds like a carb problem.

    is your air filter clean?

I would of thought it was a carb problem, and cleaning would fix.

It's pretty easy to check valve clearances, youtube it.

Doesnt the hot start make it a lean condition?

If so id say its a carb issue causing it to run rich and when you pull the HS lever it makes the mixture just right to run,Perhaps the shop that cleaned it didnt put a mixture screw back right etc etc etc
Even on the old ones if you dont race serious and you wanna just go do the odd club day and smoke everyone on a big old 5hundy it great and if you get beaten you have a handful of excuses

as far as I know the hotstart lets more air into the carb. If it needs this to run it's either struggling to get air, or getting too much fuel.

hmm.. hot start allows more air, while the choke allows less air.

definately a carb issue, or possibly an intake manifold leak

I would check for a blocked air jet at the back of the carb.

Blocked air jet is a good start; follow that up by checking to see what state your air filter is in.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Holy fuck! What the hell happened to the rest of that bike? Like, the swing arm and front wheel rim?

Has all the aluminium melted off it or did you have it in bits for maintenance?

Holly crap..! I didn't even notice the swing arm was missing, yep was on so it melted like the rest of the aluminium... the bike was all in one peace ... the only thing that wasn't on the bike was the air box (but that was on the bench which also went up in smoke).... front rim and all that melted...

I'll chuck some more pic's in my other post.
