    DR650 peg lowering kit question

    Purely hypothetical question...

Suppose a Freewind owner with a gammy right knee decided to impulse purchase a DR650 lowering kit from ooh, I don't know, VSM cause he could get it back from Aussie with a relative, thereby "saving" on postage. He reckoned it'd be the right fit, ay.

And then found the holes are drilled a couple of mm too far apart. Just f'r'instance, you know. The bottom of the plate might also foul the side stand a bit so as to make it look like the interlock mechanism will need a bit of fiddling with...

Would it be safe to get one set of holes, maybe the rear-most pair, machined into slots to take the bolts OK? Or would said numpty be better off flogging the kit off at an embarrasing loss and getting some plates made up that are the right freakin' size?

And if machinnig is required, where might be a reasonable place to do it within reach of North Shore?

A friend of a friend asked me about it... honestly. It wasn't me. Really.

I'v been looking at doing the same but using DR350 pegs.
The difficult bit is lowering the brake pedal to match..

At least you're thinking about it instead of taking a punt and going, "Oh". Unlike your 'hypothetical' correspondent!

Actuallyi he had got as far as thinking there is a need to sort out an extension to the brake light spring, but was assuming there's enough adjustment in the pedal to suit...

It's not the spring but the (lack of) adjustment that's the problem.
It might be necessary to fabricate a whole new pedal with a lower bend.

Impulse purchases are obviously a bad idea, then!

Anyone want a peg lowering kit for a DR650??

File the slots - front ones probably, to get it away from the standy bits.

Numpty may also try rotating the lowering kit as one way the spacing is a couple of mm to big and they don't even fit the DR.

As I found when I offered mine up the first time. Almost gave me a heart attack. All the measuring, CADding, 3hrs of cutting, grinding, drilling to make just one and it didn't fit!

Thanks, I will 'suggest' that. I can even loan numpty the round file in my shed, provided the brake pedal question can be addressed.

Was looking at the brake pedal situation and I *think* that if the adjustment bolt can be shortened (or even replaced?) there'll be enough adjustment to drop it down sufficiently. If it stops raining long enough I'll have a tutu.

I need to have a look at a DR650, but I reckon there may also be an issue with the angle of the right hand footpeg mounts. They are not parallel with the ground, so I reason that the plate will throw out the alignment of left and right pedals a bit... I.e. since the left side mounts are parallel to the ground and right are not, with the plates being parallelograms, I think I'll get a different effect on each side.

My geometry was no better than my metalwork skills, so I may well be wrong there!
