Demerit Points - How many does the Biffmeister have?

I've been stopped twice for speeding. Both times within the first 6 weeks of first arriving in NZ. I put it down to 'acclimatising' to the slower pace of road life here.

I got my NZ licence through the post a few weeks ago, so I've just phoned the LTSA in order to check the number of demerit points I currently have.

Now as both times I was caught speeding I was alledgedly clocked at 30kmph over the prescribed limit, so that should mean 40 points for each offence. A quick bit of maths tells I should have a grand total of 80 demerits points. The LTSA say I actually have a whopping 0 points!! Wooohoooo. I lurve my UK international driving licence.

Anybody want to buy it off me? But you must be Chinese.

    Lucky.

I've had one ticket in the last 30+ years (apart from that not even speed camera or parking tickets !) but have 40 points as a result. Must find out when they lapse.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

12 months from date of entry, wasn't that in another Biff thread packing himself over dates?

I find it hilarious that I've just insured my $412 2nd car has a $500 excess on it (3rd party only) - based on my wonderful driving history. Last ticket Nov 03.

A 600cc motorbike works much better than a foreign licence

Yup - first week here I was stopped at 134 (?) on SH1 with the cop behind me, and I saw him and thought nothing of it!! I was used to travelling at those kinds of speeds, along with 95% of other motorway users, back in the UK.

Second time, as I recently posted in another thread, I accelerated too early from a 50 into 100. Mufty clocked me at 8?kmph in a 50. Bstard that one was.

Yup, ish - 12 months from the initial date of entry within a 12 month period. This rule even caught a couple of our resident KB cops out. See here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ight=illegally

But I guess, if I was so inclined (which I'm not as I'm such a law abiding ginda guy ) I could always lie if I were to be stopped again. I guess the cop would have to ask to see my passport in order to prove I was lying. If he radioed through and got some background on me I guess I could just say, "well yeah, I came over for a week 12 + months ago...."

You should return to zero demerits after 2 years of no infringments. I still have 1 year left and Im on 95 demerits
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

    Cool

You must be good little drivers/riders for two years.... to get back to zero.
