Oh, reason not the need ; allow not drivel more than drivel's need and loonie's life were cheap as beast's.

Anyway, I like playing there. And I'm a Communist , so that's all right.

(and anyone who can worse mangle one of the noblest lines in English literature will please leave the room)

You think I don't know I'm riding a 250??? Every single time I accelerate I think about the meaning of life before something happens...

I need to ride something bigger... but yes, you have most certainly been riding longer, but I have crashed less I believe??

I can't wait until the restricted... then I can see about an exemption...

??? I ride a 250. And up to 100+ if I need to accelerate there ain't no delay before something happens. And your ZZR thingy wossit should have a lot more horses than Li'l Ratty.

Ratty may not be as fast as the Whale but it's faster than all but a handful of cars up to 80 odd. Silly Forester thing today. Beside me at the lights, I wasn't actually trying to drag him, didn't even notice him in fact. Just took off fairly fast - cos I felt in a fangy mood, was changing up at only 7000 though so I wasn't even hitting the power band. Got to 60kph and turned it back - never know where Mr Plod may pop up, few seconds later this Forester thing goes howling past, he kept the revs right up to bursting point and shot off, way over the 100kph mark by the time I lost sight of him. Dunno what he thought he was proving.

Anyway I can't see why you would complain about acceleration, tis all I can do to keep up with banging the gear lever up if I change at the red line. Until it starts to run out of puff at about 110. Yeah sure if you need acceleration over 150kph, the 250 will be limited (to say the least. ) But how often do you need to do that?

And on the motorway I don't find it an issue. If you're overtaking them, they must be doing significantly less than 100. Either just twist and overtake, if theres plenty of room and time. Otherwise , knock down into fifth (fourth for real outta here moments) and you should have all that's needed.

If I'm in a racy mood, yeah, when accelerating hard and staying in the powerband, there is no problem.

The huge problem is roll on acceleration, which I find I use a lot, and maybe I use less revs when cruising (usually 5ish, low is 4, if a hill I will definitely change down), but changing down one gear doesn't make a massive difference, must try two.

Like today, headed out from Whitford to Beachlands (-> Clevedon etc) and after a straight there is a hill up to the right then curves left, with passing lane. Love it for overtaking, but down a gear to get past a truck, initially nothing happens, then begins to find the band, slowly accelerate, hold gear, power coming fast, up-a-gear, doing 105. Then I have power to play with. But going round the right in the fast lane at 100 today was err... interesting, amazing how a stuck out knee pulls you in...

The trick is getting into the power band. How heavy are you??

About 120kg with gear. All solid flab mind you.

With a small bike (250 classes as small), you have to accept that you're going to have to work the gearbox. You can't just twist and go like a big twin. Soon as you see that you MAY want to overtake, biff it down one cog . That's still fairly easy cruising revs (I keep forgetting the last upward change on Ratty, and going for miles in fifth- not used to 6 speeds on the road.).So if you have to wait a bit for an opportunity it's no big deal to stay one cog down. Then once you've done the checking mirrors signalling making decision bit, bung it down the second cog.

With a 250 you NEED to be in racy mode. Or accept that it's just a pootle today, and not looking to blow past anyone. Jeykll or Hyde, you gotta choose one.

Any sports bike you're going to find this though. Cos even a bigger one, the powers still going to be at the upper end. Remember the R in the model means Racing . And if you're crusing in top gear, the revs will be so low that you'll still need to drop a couple of gears. Of course, on a 1000 then the result will be very fast acceleration indeed.

But if you want to burble along in top and overtake just with a twist of the wrist you need to look at a big twin - V twin or parallel, cos they are the ones with torque (or, a single if you want REAL torque, but there are tradeoffs for that that you might not like)

Hehe yea maybe. Anyway atleast one your bike you can accelerate hard and not worry about the bike dying on you. (fixing that soon)

Anyway, hey Spank what'sup with the pointless drivel forum? You changed the way it looks again?

hmm, OK, with my uni gear (when I go, instead of the country) I'm probably 120, so that doesn't count.

That's a handy bit of advice, I will definitely try that.

But I want both... Sit behind traffic, then blast (OK scream) past...

mmm want grunt/flick-of-the-wrist, but also want a sportsbike... but I suppose if you use the gears, you'll definitely get a flick reaction (kinda like that Ewok from Star Wars - hanging onto the handlebars).

Like no electric start?? I think my uncle had a 500 single, dad said there was an art to starting it. I like my shins how they are thanks very much.

Oh well, have to keep dreaming until I get an exemption. Then I can start seeing what I want...
