New BMW BIKE for STU
From Franklin County News,Tuesday June 14.
Pukekohe Strategic Traffic Unit (STU) has had a major upgarde with a new BMW 1150RT motorcycle replacing the old Honda ST1100, this should improve traffic policing.
The STU's sole bike cop,
Constable Nick Richards, says the bike is higher which improves visability and makes it easier to see the seat belts and unrestrained childern. "And people don't see it on the road" he says. "Its faster than a car too, which means I can cut through traffic quicker to deal with accidents, and acceleration is quicker. And its better for rural roads".
The motorcycle is equipped just like a police car and has new speed detection device.
Obviously a welcome addition to the STU teams's resorces , the motorcycle should improve road policing.
Mr Richards also says it should raise the profile of motorcyclists and police will be encouraging extra caution around them.
Motorists should always "Think Bikes" when there out on the road. he says.

"Kiwi Biker, still a great place despite the mods "
"Would crawl over broken glass before owning Suzuki"
The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
my own fault really.
