    Tail bags and lens cleaner...

Bein' a spectacle wearer an' all, I usually carry a little bottle of lens cleaner in the tail bag - one of those little squirty bottles with the wee cap on top.

I need a better bottle. When I rode to Raglan this morning (I lurve that road!) I needed to clean the visor of accumulated bug spooge etc upon arrival. Rummaged around in the tail bag to find the cleaner. Cap had come off and bottle was empty. Which means that the whole lot (not that much actually) had spilled throughout the bag. Second time this has happened.

Had to use spit to clean the visor instead. Doesn't work that well as it turned out...

Got home. Emptied the bag of everything (amazing what shit collects in there!). Discovered that most of the spill was soaked up by the trusty silk balaclava that lives in abandonment in the bottom of the bag. Lucky. The compressor and electronic pressure gauge both still work.

Like I said, I need a better bottle. One that STAYS FUCKING SHUT!

    ps The ride was ace!

Substitute "big can of chain-lube" for "little bottle of lens-cleaner" and, yeah, new tail-bag time for me.

I have a little bottle with a sprayer thingy and there is a cap that goes over it - I have never had any leakage with that - costs buggar all from Specsavers. In fact I have several in various places for riding. There is nothing worse that a dirty visor or dirty glasses

+1 When you buy a new bottle of cleaner, just make sure it's a different brand to the leaky one you have now

I stuck a half used bottle of brake fluid in my bag once. Turns out the lid of those things isn't that airtight. Not fun cleaning that up :/

cant help you with the glasses, but visor cleaning i do at the garage when topping up. Get a few stares as i use the windscreen brush and the rubber thingy to clean it off. All with out removing said helmet.

Haha nice. I've used the brush rubber combo once but I had removed my helmet first. I usually just use the paper towels and water to wash it. I quite often stop at stations even if I'm not filling up just to clean my visor.

That's exactly what I have but for some reason they come to grief...perhaps because I tend to chuck the bag around a bit and sometimes drop it on the ground and I have been known to forget to clip it on to the cradle and have had it fall off up the road - about three times now...

I do that to and have done for many years. A tip is to make sure the brush doesn't reach over the top of the visor so the cleaning stuff runs down the inside of the visor.

OK back to Slofoxs question: I have one of those non scratch cloths you get from the super market.
Jeepers someone help me out here Microfibre or something read about it on here to?? One of these looks a bit like a soft facecloth.

I keep it damp under the seat in a zip lock bag so it doesn't dry out. Really good for soaking off those wind hardened bugs you don't want to have to scrub off with a brush. Stick it in the washing machine then back in the bag without letting it dry easy! Then I generally use my soft polyprop neck warmer to polish it all up.

I used to have on of those squirty bottle visor cleaner with the wiper blade on thingy's you can get from the bike shop but the cloth is better on the visor.

Anyway just my 2c good luck mate!!

I always carry a travel pack of baby wipes with me and a pack of soft tissues to wipe it dry with. Better than though rough servo paper towels that could scratch the visor.

I'm using window wipes these days, but normally use my Camelback to wash my visor...fresh water only.

Also if you get caught short out in the back blocks, crouching down behind a gorse bush, the baby wipes are a hellva lot softer than coarse paper towels.
