Any bike shop should be able to supply an assortment of sizes and colours.

could try somewhere like EDL fastners, theres one over the shore or fortress on rosebank road, generally have a awesome supply of nuts and bolts just rock in with a sample,
BUT I would imagine neither of them will be open till the new year.

Scratch that didn't see your location. surely there would be a similar sort of place in your town tho?

Places like SuperCheap Autos have an assortment of bolts and screws as well. Or metal foundry store if there's one locally.

Places like that almost always only have low quality hardware so be careful when doing them up.

I think what you want is a M6 "cap screw" 35mm long, Just look in the yellow pages for fasteners there will be some body around who can supply these.

An engineering shop supplying the trade should be able to help.

I use Hardie Fasteners in Mt Wellington. Probably not much use to you though, bit of a long way to go. I had to get much the same thing to adjust the screen rake.

M6 x 35 socket head cap screw. Which, in NZ will comply with certain standards, almost universally be 12.9 class, (tensile strength). But yes, the cheap nasty shite found on some imported assemblies is just that. So don't thieve the bolts off the Mrs's barbie eh?

Develop a relationship with a local engineering workshop, they'll usually stock the more common stuff for their own use.

Failing that, or if you need bulk then use Fortress or EDL. Steel & Tube have quite good stocks too but as with all the above they're wholesalers, if you don't have an account you'll pay their minimum cash sale price. If you want just a couple of anything that can get pricey.

Personally I don't understand how anybody can survive without immediate access to a fairly good collection of fasteners.

My favourite place to buy bolts and bolt accessories is The Bolt Shop on the North Shore of Auckland. They have rows and rows and rows of bolts, and bolt accessories.

They don't have an on-line store, but I'm sure if you ring them up you could arrange to get something sent to you.
