The guy down the road spotted me working on the car yesterday and asked for any ideas on "some clever electrickery" in his words, that could tell him if he starts to drive off in his ute with one or more of his toolboxes missing (builder).

I said that I know just the circuit for him to build, and it will only cost a box of beers.

Weird how these things seem to come up isn't it?

so this will have several switches and all will have to be closed otherwise the beeper will go off?Series or parallel???

In this case, he wants all toolboxes to be in place, so all 4 of the switches will need to be in parallel. If any one magnet is not near it's switch, the beeper will go. Well actually we are putting an LED near his dash instead of a beeper but same diff.

I just knocked out the circuit and put it in a box just now - all of 2 minutes work so to me that works out at 360 beers per hour!

Happy to draw a diagram, but this is a quick erply from my phone....just ask again if you still need clarification :-)

all the switches are in parallel. Each switch is OPEN when magnet nearby and CLOSED when magnet is missing. So for paralleled switches, if any one is closed (no magnet) the beeper will have a path for current to flow. Hence any toolbox missing means the beeper goes off.
