Passing slower bikes on the left inside!

Riding back to Wellington from Wanganui on Sunday south of Levin. I was riding alone, when I heard some bikes behind me. Check my mirrors to see a bike on my right making a pass, so I started to manoeuvre to the left just as anther bike flashed passed me on my left inside!

I only pulled to the left so the bike on my right could pass me without needing to cross the centreline.

I've only been riding motorbikes for a year and a half now and have never seen or heard of this happing before. I did notice a lot of bikes parked outside of pubs along the journey back to Wellington, and wonder if alcohol had anything to with it.

My thinking now is to stay in the right hand wheel tracks and never pull to left, making all bikes pass me cross the centreline. I would like to hear the thoughts from some more experienced motorcyclists please.

That's called 'undertaking'. It is rare(ish), but does happen. It can and does give one a hell of a fright.
Check both mirrors more often to avoid being taken by surprise. You won't always stop others from doing it, but if you are always aware of what's behind you, at least you could maybe move left before some tosser commits...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Not a good practice at all ... but watch your mirrors as much as you can ... and be aware of what/who is behind ...

    Undertaking (plural undertakings)

1.Specifically, the business of an undertaker, or the management of funerals.

    Oh the irony......

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes

The best thing to do is follow them once stopped let them know what wrong the rider did then follow it up with a punch to the nose.
I doubt any of his/her mates would back up that kinda dum riding, and if they do thats when you whack em in the face with a helmet.

I've done it to mates, sometimes on one wheel. But it's a bit rough to breeze by someone on the left if someone is already going past on the right.

I have a "friend" who has done this to me two or three times. The last time he did it I told him in no uncertain terms what I thought of his actions. Funny, I haven't heard from him for a while.
