Temporarily confused as to whether to write about religion or marksmanship...

At the risk of re-hijacking the thread: Good on ya, Quasi - for your actions on the night in question and for your follow-ups.

We moved back into Hamilscum with quite a bit of reluctance - we were living out of town near Tauwhare and frankly couldn't afford the commuting costs when I killed the LS and had to rely on the car.

The level of crime in town and the number of wannabe gangstas lurking about - of all races, I might add - concerns me greatly, especially when I'm out and about with my wife and children.

I would not like for my family to be subjected to what Quasi and his family endured. Nor would I like my family to learn I was beaten to a pulp whilst waiting to catch the bus home on a dark winter's night.

The violence has steadily got worse over the years I've lived in and near this town (since the middle of the August holidays, 1979). Years ago, a friend of mine and I assisted the Maori Warden in subduing a drunk youth who had beaten up his girlfriend and also punched his girlfriend's aunt's boyfriend in the back of the head while he was driving. He was angry but easily subdued (caught in an arm lock and had his face planted in the grass for quarter of an hour) - a mob of 20-30 people beating the crap out of someone is a whole different matter.

I remember there always being "gangs" around Hamilton - not just the big "official" ones like the Mob, BP and OCs but smaller groups of hoods into a bit of aggro and more "random" in their choice of targets (never had a problem with the Mob, BP or OCs but got beaten up by a bunch of dicks down by the river and got followed up the road one by four youths who did not look like they were intending on asking me where I got my jacket). It seems there are now a lot more gangs of youths and they're getting bigger numerically - I had an escape route planned that would have evaded the four hoods that tailed me that night but I doubt I could evade 20-odd people.

I am mindful if I go out with my family that there is a greater likelihood now that we will be attacked or witness someone else being attacked.

NAH IT WAS CLOSED BRETHEREN , SO WOMAN WORE SCARVES AND WERENT ALLOWED TO TALK IN THE CHURCH AND WERENT CONSIDERED ABLE TO MAKE DECESIONS SO SHE GOT NO BLAME , FAIR ENUF THOUGH SHE WAS THERE FOR GOD I WAS THERE CAUSE I WAS BROKE AND HORNY AND IT WAS THE ONLY PLACE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE THAT I COULD FREELOAD

Interesting, it's not that easy to just 'walk in' to the Closed Brethren denom! Usually entrance is only granted to friends and family? Therefore whinger, you must have caused no small stir among your close acquaintances! Not ashamed either it sounds.
