you dont shoot for the knees, you always aim centre of mass! smack in the middle of the chest/torso, the only time you pull a weapon is if you intend to use it and you shoot to kill, else you pull out an ASP batton or something and beat the bastards with one of them.

O.K., generally a pistol with fixed factory sights has an effective range about the same distance as that which you could hit somebody by throwing the pistol at it. Combine that with twice a year practice for 90% of those using said pistol...

Have a go at paintball, try and hit somebodys legs at 15 metres while they are walking - one shot at a time. PM me if you need to know more.

Please don't tell me that you guys who we rely on for expert support in time of serious emergencies practice ONLY TWICE A YEAR.............

And yeah - we guys were talking about that paintball thingee..... never done it before......

As for hitting someones legs yes I know it is difficult as you need to take into account wind deflection, possible target location after a given instant of time, your reaction time and any possible kickback effect/movement....... but isn't that why you fellas go to school??

Don't tell me it's that bloody hard.... and if it is you guys should be the guys who make it look easy.

    Oooh, here's my story!

Being a medium build 15 year old, I consider myself pretty fit. One day, I was at the park with my friend (17), my brother (17, weedy, had a broken arm at the time) and a female friend. We're all having a good time, when we see these 3 guys, with 2 of them wearing the same shirt. So of course we have a little chuckle to ourselves about it and continue on our merry way. Then they come over to where we are, and start trying to intimidate us. These kids were about 15, all 3 of them. All seemed to be pretty wannabe gangsters.

This one guy starts spouting all this "F**k the Police!" stuff to me, and I'm like "YAEH WHATEVER GO EET A FAT COCK" (not what I said). And we proceed to go somewhere else at the park. They follow us, and start making threatening gestures, asking us if we wanna crack. We assume they're joking (people threaten to beat me up all the time). So right when we're about to leave, they walk up and surround us (we're standing on a wooden platform thing). Keep in mind that it's 3 against 2 able-bodied people.

One of them tries to get lippy with my friend, and tries to have a go at him, so my friend hooks him across the face. At this point, my brother and female friend run away. But sadly me and my other friend are stuck with these 3 guys.

Me (the pacifist) just blocks as this FTP guy starts trying to punch me in the head. He connects with my nose, and then I go at him. I hooked him in the chin, then kicked him in the stomache, and jumped off the platform. My friend is fighting these 2 other guys, but he managed to stop them.

Then this guy jumps down after me, and picks up this baseball-sized rock. At this point he's saying how he's going to kill us, blah blah blah. I tell him he won (yeah right) and that he has nothing to prove. I start walking back towards the car. He follows. His friends are giving him "Your a dumb fucking truck" looks, as he goes on about how he has "FTP" tatooed across his chest (They're all lily white).

Things start getting serious again, with him brandishing a rock, and threatening to wreck my friend's car. At this stage, some spineless adults that we've asked to call the cops or anything are just driving off. But then my personal hero, This awesome Asian dude, tells them to piss off before he gets the cops on them. This dude is about 40, and then when the trash kids said "Go home to your own country" he yelled back, "I'm a fucking New Zealander!". They ran away prerty quick.

In the end, my lip was swollen, and my nose is slightly crooked. The moral of this story is that Asian dudes rule.

PS, I heard from someone else that was at the park that they were all smoking weed before we saw them.

No idea why I typed all this out. I guess I must be bored.

Guns are way more accurate than Paintball man. Not even worth comparing. A paintball wont go straight in a room with no wind or air movemtn what so ever. The liquid inside moves to much. Bullets don't have that problem and are shaped to cut through the air. Shooting a pistol is nothing like shotting a paintball gun.

Yeah, it is that bloody hard. Shooting people in the legs is TV stuff. Doesn't work that way in real world. If the situation's bad enough that a cop needs to shoot, he can't risk messing about trying to shoot someone in the legs. In NZ no-one's going to get shot unless they're doing something they definately ought not to be. And if they are and the cops have to shoot they''re going to go for the shot that will stop him for sure. Because they may not get time for a second shot.

Best marksman around can't rely on hitting in the leg.

Ok, I personally can pop a bullet in roughly the right direction (I can shoot fairly well but not blowing my own trumpet) but then I'm a 'gun' type person, imagine what it is like for cops that fine guns as natural as I find crochet!!!

There is SO many aspects of policing and firearms are only one - and you want us all to be marksmen??

Oh well atleast most of you street cops are big scary fellas...... so hopefully that should solve 99% of the problems......

Anyway a lot of these things I guess comes down to your policing attitude.

Saw a 5ft6 60kg security guard hold down and fight off three 6ft plus 100kg idiots once...... later found out this chap was into jiujitsu.

No don;t expect you'll to be marksman...... I understand Ixion's and sAsLEX's points...... by the time it's reached a stage where you have to pull your guns out it's too late already.

OH MY GOD!!!! Did anybody get this - WINJA JUST POSTED IN SUPPORT OF "PIGS".

And Winja it's not too difficult to take a golf club, etc out of someone's hand.... will take 2 years of decent training and you should be able to do it 8 times out of 10 and in the remaining 2 times you should be able to improvise.
