"Look, Madame, where we live, look how we live ... look at the life we have...The Republic has forgotten us."
I rode for years w/o helmet when it was legal. Then the law chaged. Someone decided that we were not able to make decisions for our selves and suddenly it was a legal requirement to have helmet. Apperently in the instant I jumped on my bike w/o a helmet I would be fatally injured. At those days it was still legal to ride w/o helmet in Italy. And so, every Northern summer, I would travel to Italy to ride w/o helmet. To my surprise I did not die, I did not even end up brain damaged!
This confused me hugely: Either I was not doing it right as I did not die, or the propaganda was wrong...
Today I still ride w/o helmet on the beach. I take my kids for a ride and we do many k's as I have concluded that my riding is what determines if I will get hurt or not. Not if I have a helmet on my head.
Re the unfortunate chap: The heading of this thread is clearly a troll. No human being could ever wish a stranger death because he has made a mistake. That would just be so low and mean. It would clearly say more re the writer than the unfortunate injured rider.
Me, I wish him speedy full recovery as somewhere there is someone who loves him, needs him and who's life will never be the same if he dies.
I hope he makes a speedy recovery,I don't know why anyone would wish him dead because he made a mistake and rode without a helmet,he may have just popped down the road to take the bike for a quick test etc....
In most states of the USA wearing a helmet is NOT compulsory, it is only in nanny states like NZ that wearing a helmet is compulsory!!!
I really don't see how this guys decision to ride a short distance without a helmet makes him anything more than unfortuanate due to his falling off.
As there is a bike shop in the street it is a fair guess that he was doing a quick test ride on a side street, I know I have been guilty of doing the same thing & will do it again.

yeah i have been reading stories on here of people getting their brains mashed by moving their bikes around their properties without a helmet on. simply sitting on their bikes, starting it to move it off the driveway, and falling over.
its not hard to hit your head on the concrete and get absolutely fucked.
thats why fighting is considered dangerous. if you knock someone out who was standing, its a long fall for their head to the concrete, and they cant protect themselves in the fall coz they are unconcious.

" Life is not a rehearsal, it's as happy or miserable as you want to make it"
True it would depend on why he fell off, I'm assuming he was test riding & had an oops as the road in question is a side road with a bike shop on it.
My understanding of the U.S law is that it is approx 15 of the lower 48 states that have some kind of helmet law , the rest don't.
I am an ATGATT person. Infact there will be posts on here where I have expressed strong opinion on how I feel about people that dont subscribe to ATGATT. I am however of the opinion that you have to take responsibility for your own actions, and what you chose to wear is none of my business.
I struggle sometimes with my ATGATT stance, and my total belief in freedom to do as we will. If push comes to shove, I will defend the right of anyone that choses to wear less than what I think is appropriate. I will however still stand strong on good gear.
I have never wished someone dead. I would like to think that the OP has expressed himself badly.
It was a very badly expressed thought. How would anyone think it ok to say...
"Unfortunately, his injuries are not life threatening"
Y'all are forgetting that the OP was trained in law enforcement. Ergo he can say anything he likes in any manner he likes and the problem will be with YOUR interpretation of it. He will always be right.
It's just how it is.
He's probably so indoctrinated that he truly believes that since the unfortunate rider didn't get a ticket, the only other possible outcome is death.
Keep on chooglin'
