I wonder how it works with medical insurance in America, if you choose not to wear a helmet? Would your medical insurance still cover your accident?
If you can't pay for your treatment what happens then?

Well it went like this: Visiting a mate up in Connecticut, he hauls a couple of Harleys out of his shed and suggests we take a couple of days out riding. We were to catch up with a bunch of blokes to go bowling and boozing in a place called Stafford.

"Cool, umm what helmet can I wear?"
    Stunned silence ...
"I don't have any helmets and never have had one!"

A bit more rummaging in the shed and a pair of boots and a denim jacket materialize.
"here wear these, I wouldn't be seen dead with a guy wearing shoes and a sweat shirt"

Along the way we came across lots of riders and none of them were wearing helmets apart from a couple of sport bike riders. Strange indeed, but the way they are.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Hmm, hard to say less than 50% with helmets but how much hard to say as different states had different rules..so the ratio varied depending where I was.

I actually saw very few bikes, and commented as such to the Moll. The bikes I saw on the interstates & highways (speed limit 60-70 MPH) almost always had helmets on.

The posers idling through the french quarter, and idling past the cafes on the North shore lakeside were sans helmet. It was winter so all had jackets (maybe another reason so few bikes at the time?), most had boots & gloves.
    Keep on chooglin'

I've got more time for the guy riding than the likes of you Marty, and would offer him more assistance in anyway that I could.

of course, one would be extra extra careful.
that is if you can be more careful than treating everyone like they are hunting you

If the State laws allow riders to go without a helmet, the insurance companies can't force riders to wear them. They can choose not to offer a policy or to demand a high premium.

since i am a new zealand taxpayer, also a payer of ACC levies,i have every right to an opinion, since i am in part paying for this idiot to ride, then crash, without a helmet.

i condemn him for riding without a helmet in the first place, having a crash only makes it worse.

Shit ... I was riding bikes before helmet laws were compulsory ... and we all objected to having to wear them ...

    How attitudes have changed ..
