Your recommendations for my new bike

A mate of mine recently purchased a Suzuki TL1000S and offered to let me take it for a ride.

I now need a bigger bike.

Before I open the wallet I'd like some ideas and opinions from you out there on what's decent. I'm open to suggestion, but ideally the bike would be:

    1. V-TWIN
I'm after something fast, but not Superbike fast, and I like the sound of a v-twin. Reliability a bonus.

    2. FULL SIZE
By full size I mean big bike...large enough to take two people, and (if possible) full fairings.

    3. CUSTOMISABLE
I'd like the option to expand on the base model if need be...from engine mods to fairings.

    4. PRICE
    I can play with around $5k +/-

    Cheers in advance!

Not that I have an interest:

Then talk to Riffer and/or Drew about customising to make these a sleeper weapon.

    Not V-twin, but ya know.

No, not mine - I've got a 1000SS. This just fits your want list and IMHO is well priced

Tell ya what, I'll even take two of the spark plugs out.

Shit, that'd make it a parallel twin, not a V. Bollocks.

VTR thou, aka Superhawk, aka RC51, would be my choice

Ok after a bit of research I have a small list as follows:

    - Honda VTR1000
    - Suzuki TL1000S (or R)
    - Suzuki SV1000
    - Ducati 900SS

As I rode my friend's TL1000S I assume the SV1000 is a good choice (I read that the engine is the same as the TL although slightly de-tuned), but am keen to hear feedback from the community for advice.

    SV1000S

or save some more $$$ and go TL-R (slightly biased here haha)

SV is close enough to your budget, compare one side by side with the VTR (not SP1 or SP2) you'll notice the difference. Injection vs carb being one of the majors.

    Go the Twin

Given that you mention pillioneering in your list, I wouldn't get a VTR1000 or TL1000.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
