    wheelies aren't dangerous

Why are wheelies considered dangerous driving while talking on a cell phone while driving is legal.Lets try and get wheelies downgraded to being an annoyance cos car drivers get annoyed cos they can't do wheelies
p.s. some people I know are safer on one wheel then most cagers are on four!

    I like your thinking

They'll pull us over for a wheelie, but they won't pull over the car tailgating you

    You're right. Dangerous isn't a wheelie, he's a person.

I know of one skilled rider who lost his 929 down the motorway because of a sudden gust of wind. Both him and the bike slid along and the bike actually ended up rear ending into a car which was traveling at approx 100kmph while the bike would have still been going about 160kmph sliding along on it's side.

If the cops see you doing wheelies, it means you are doing it in a place where others around you could be at risk no matter how good you are. If you are doing it in a quite enough road even if it is a public one, then there is no risk of getting caught anyway.

The law is there to protect the members of the public, if you decide to break the law then that's up to you, most of us have done this. However, if the law was to be altered in a way that you are sujesting, then all hell will break loose with every other idiot doing wheelies up and down the road.
Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don’t. They sit in front of the T.V. and treat life as if it goes on forever” – Philip Andrew Adams

I think I am definatly safer talking on my phone in the car than popping a wheelie - but I'm safer going sideways than talking on the phone...guess it's what you are into eh?

    Agreed.

The main problem is some people don’t know how to do it safely - but still you shouldn’t be doing it around cars its just irresponsible, you loose a lot of the steering capability and stopping is almost impossible unless the front is down.

That aint the problem. And yes, around cars is the best time to do them. That way chicks get to see ya.

The problem is, the threshold for something going wrong (like a cuntingly strong gust of wind) is smaller.

    lamo..

I'm just getting started with wheelies myself.
But as a self imposed strict rule, I never do them when there's anybody around, save for a few people I know. That way a) there's no chance of me hitting any moving traffic and/or peeps, and b) minimises any chance of the boys in blue having a word with me.

If there's fellow bikers or cars I know who the driver is, around me that I know well, I might be tempted under the right conditions to have a go, but even then, the conditions have to be bloody good before I give it a go..

These rules apply to me pretty much, well, most of the time. and I take responsibility of any and every action I take, and do my best to not put anyone at risk. If there's any chance of needing the brakes, steering etc, even road conditions or any people near by, then it just doesn't happen.. Works so far..
