    MNZ views on helmet age

Been getting a conflicting view from my local MNZ club they're saying you shudn't use a Helmet older than 3 yrs & it must have all da standards stickers.
Just been on MNZ web site & you can use a Helmet no older than 10yrs, are my club being a bit over zealous.
I'd rather buy a 2yr old new Arai or Shoei for a discounted $ than a cheap no name brand from indo china.

i always thought it was reccomended 5 years, but it comes down to use, and amount of storage, i know some poeple that use a 6-7 year helmet that is prob in better condition that some other peoples 1 year old helmet,

it pays to remember that a helmet is desgined for one big hit, and it needs to be replaced after that, if you have a big hit look at the outside and inside for damage, big dents in the foam on the inside means the helmet has done its job and needs to be replaced

Most helmet manufacturers recommend replacing/retiring helmets after 5 years or a drop/off/impact.

Shouldn't you be ok if a new helmet meets the NZ / Aus standards etc? (AS/NZS1698 )

depends how much you value your head to be honest, but those are the minimum standard you are allowed to run,

ECE05 and AS1698 are the comman ones, but Snell is around as well, i would prefer not to run a snell helmet as they are heavier

If you're riding in Australia, you can get busted for wearing a helmet that doesn't display the Aussie standards sticker. That's not the case in New Zealand.
