Classic Bike value. AKA The worlds most expensive CB400F

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-394539201.htm

Sure, its a reeeeeeeeel nice example of a reeeeeeeel nice bike. And somebody might buy it, but i doubt it if $10500 is within 15% of purchase price (so, he wants $11k or so for it).

So, callers, what is this worth? I thought $6k or so.

(Entirely disinterested in buying it: I bought a bike last week)

You just bid up to see what the reserve is then, that's probably not going to help him get an idea of market value

To the right buyer I think 10k is not out of the question, but since it's just an old IL4, the right buyer might be damn hard to find!

The unanswered question is mine, and asks him what he is basing his estimate of value on.

but yeah, once it got past the $7k mark I kept running it up to see what sort of outlandish figure he had on it.

I take the point: they're a lovely bike (I've had a couple), they have a following in the UK and US, and that is a stunning example with all the right bits on it looks like, plus things like the seat base is sound and the rear guard and chainguard are pristine, and obviously a lot of time and money has been spent.

But to a collector, original and unmolested are the key, right? and there are a couple of CB750's on tardme at present which have got buy nows of round the $9k mark.

I'm really sorry, but I'm still tempted. Sorry.

    the cockhead has blacklisted me

and removed all the bids. (twenty minutes of my life I won't get back).

So, to recap: I ran it up to the "Your current bid is within 15% of the reserve" and I got that at $10500.

What if I genuinely want to buy it? (not that I do) but what if I did, even at his outlandish price? what then Jebus?

    80,000kms and a partial rebuild?
A half arsed motor rebuild, no balancing, bottom end fine?
If you pull it down that far only a tight arse would not do the bottom end and get the crank balanced after that many kms- which makes me think what other short cuts have been taken?
Collectors want low mile original bikes in showroom condition or sympathic pattina, or a totally rebuilt ground up bike- then you can ask top dollar.

6 grand would be a pre recession top dollar, right now maybe 5,500 if he is lucky..

Indeed. But you'd be both rich and stupid to pay that much.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
