Lanesplitting - who does it and who's been snapped doing it?

I just got ticketed for lanesplitting, however after that ordeal I followed another motorcycle through traffic, saw another mufty cop and the other bike lanesplitted and I held back, and the cop didn't chase him!!!!!
Soooo my question is who does it (we all do it!) and who's been fined for it?

There are a few threads that cover the legal side of lanesplitting on here. Have a search and see if it helps explain what happened...

I also might add that i was doing it at below 20kph and the traffic had only just started moving, so I didn't think it would be much of a problem

Yeah I just read that, isn't itt funny how some cops (refer police 10/7) are all nicey nicey mr good cop and they're all polite and friendly and the dudes they're dealing with are completely intoxicated or stoned and won't co-operate and their vehicles are unwarranted and unregistered and they get treated all nice and stuff, but when you're an honest SOBER rider who takes care of their bike and makes sure it's warranted and reg'd and you're polite and co-operative with the police, they treat you like you're an idiot and you're the scum of the earth! Or is it just me?

If you don't lane split you might as well drive a car.Hundreds of bikes do it every day in Wellywood and as long as you do it carefully, without being a dick,Mr.Plod turns a blind eye.

If you're in the sort of thick traffic where you're lanesplitting, and it's not a motorcycle cop who takes offence at your wayward splitting... how on earth did you get pulled over?

I lanesplit heavily, every day. Keep it sensible, keep it polite(ish). I've split past cops stuck in their cars, split past cops on bikes. Followed cop bikes that have been splitting. Passed ambulances while I've been splitting (damn sight safer than being killed by the morons trying to "draft" the gap in traffic right behind the ambulance, that's for sure).

As a bike cop told us once, if you keep it below 50kp/h (60kp/h is about my maximum splitting speed, now), and you keep it sensible, you should be fine.

It's not Mr Plod that stops me doing it. It's the random reaction of grumpy car driver that worries me. (I'm not an angel though. If the traffic is heavy enough and the light timing is right I'll whizz up the cycle lane and get to the front at a red light. (Don't tell the lycra two wheelers huh!)

Hell, in the CBD on my NC30 and 636, I used to hit the killswitch and push them across the intersection in the pedestrian phases. Even done it right in front of cops, who always just smiled - except for one chap, who waved his finger at me making the "naughty naughty" gesture... while still having a large smile on his face.

Awesome I guess that's technically legal isn't it, not doing much for driver/rider relations though (how many car drivers would be trying to rip the steering wheel off while watching you filter past them, walk across the intersection, then ride away).

Pretty much my story word for word. Sorry to hear you got a ticket for it. Technically he was able to ticket you but I've never had anything but a nod or wave from cops as I've split. I pulled over once to let a local bike cop past as he was splitting a wee bit faster than I was and we nodded at each other as he went by and I just pulled back out and followed him, although he gradually pulled ahead of me.

Hey, fair is fair. If they're willing to turn their car off and push it across the intersection, then I'd have no problem with that either.
