    Hitching for a ride...

    Destination Ashburton !!

Starting In wgtn I needed to get too Asburton to pick up a new member of the family

I was on the 9pm ferry sailing from wgtn on Wednesday and had mangered to sort out a ride to Ashburton with one of the stock driversI was sorted,so let (John) the guy who had the bike that I would be there around 7am,we arrived at 7:30 and I was so excited to see my bike in person,we did the deal and I proceeded too pull the bike apart too fit the packrack frame and luggage I had carried with me,I was given access too johns tools and work shop space too do what I needed while he went out too do a job,

Then I called into the local Yamaha shop in Ashbuton and the guys squeezed the bike in for a filter and oil change why I went and did change of ownership etc and had breakfast at Robbies bar and grill, the time I got back the bike was all serviced, ready for the trip back too Wanganui

Leaving Asburton at 10 the bike felt a little tight, and its been a while since I have ridden a trailbike so we were just getting to know each other, didn't take long and things started too free up,by the time we got to Rakaia where I suddnely remembered I have drum brakes not Disc brakes as I pulled a handful too stopbut we were making good pace and just purring along and that was the motion for the day the further we went the free'er we became, weather wasn't really on our side with the wind and rain so heading too the hills had too wait until next time...1st fuel stop in Amberly as I'm still sorting out what the range will be considering the weather and the luggage I was carrying

2nd stop Cheviot, catch up with friends and coffee after some dicussion I decieded to top up the tank and make ward my last fuel stop for the South Island considering I was still guessing at range of tank but assumed it was around 11 litres I figured I should be able too do 160-170k's/tank,so through the hills I go and up the coast I head with my good friend the rain turned up to keep me company which I lost around Clerence,it wasn't long and I past the old stone church and the trip read 150k's and I still wasn't sure how far from Ward I was,now thats planning, but too my relief i was'nt long and I was at Ward and only used 7 litres so now Im figuring at this rate I'm getting around 20ks/litre on 95

So off too Picton I go and into rush hour Taffic, and onto too catch my 7pm sailing on the straitsman,
On boarding I get a quick feed and get a cabin well worth hiring if your feeling whacked and need a good sleep.....then the final leg home Wgtn too Wanganui the weather was mint and having a full moon I arrived home around 2am today, buzzing about trip despite the weather I encounted on the way,Now looking Forward to getting into the back country

so here are some pic's of my new 80's relic

    Noice.
Your new favourite road will be up the back of Bushy Park Rd, and back through Aramoho. Also, that bike is built to do Fischers track, (Retaruke Rd-Back of National Park Village), and you may as well do the 42 traverse while your there. Obviously me n Kanny will down shortly to join in
    Enjoy.
