That's my single biggest complaint about speed cameras. Personally I beleive there should be an amnesty period between first offence and when the ticket is issued.

My wife recently received two speed camera tickets that were taken 3 minutes apart. The area she got snapped used to be a 100km/h and recently got turned into a 70km/h area.

Went for a ride to check it out and it's extremely well sign-posted so I've got little sympathy. She obviously wasn't paying attention.

So, if you know you got snapped, you've essentially got "license to speed"...?

Yeah, we've noticed a few speed restriction changes around our area and it's easy to "not see" the signage.

I had a quickish ride back from the waikato this week - didn't see any cameras, but then I don't particularly look for them - so hoping I don't get the special envelope in the letter box (or in this case, more than one...)

I'm surprised that there are so few incidents of 2 patrol cars a couple of k's from each other on the same side in order to get the motorists who think "yay, got past him ok, now i can open it up" or do they do that a lot already?

I don't buy into the "they changed the speed limit" argument.

One of the biggest threats we face on the road is lack of observational skills from other road users. If people (including motorcyclists) can't see prominent speed limit signs, then what hope do we have?

Here in Dunners, there is a section of the one-way system which was changed from 50 to 60kph, around 8-10 years ago. It's well signposted. A surprisingly large number of people still have no idea that it's been changed.

altho to avoid being scammed and to "drive safely" you are expected to have your eyes OFF the road for no less than 16secs every minute thats 1/4 of the time on the road not watching it & we're told this is "safe"?. In distance terms that is 445m of road NOT being watched every minute in a 100km/h zone or 222m every minute in a 50km/h zone.

na they charge you the 30$ to pay it off regardless so if your gonna pay the extra 30$ ya might as well get some court time in too (if ya got the time to spare)

Why didn't you see it? Was it hidden under an invisibility cloak? And keep the speed for out of town, think of the kiddies etc.

Check out the thread I just started about the Victorian speed cameras - they appear to do nothing to road fatalities.

Pardon my ignorance (well this time anyway) has anyone been speed camera ticketed on their bike? I have gone past several cameras a tad quicker than was proper and not seen it flash or had a ticket (touch wood).
