To the few who know me...

Off to the south, Westport in fact, to become a "Westie" grow a long beard and smoke a pipe or somehing like that. Heard it's wet so got new tyres on the bikes.
Not much on the 'net 'bout off roading (or onroad for that matter) can't see any organised rides. Guess it's grab the bike and ride .....anywhere. Will miss mr motorcycle rides up in AK (never managed to make it to the beach run) and of course the sandpit although there's lot of beach to ride on down there. Know there is a mx track in greymouth 100km away...somewhere.
    Any info pls inform me/us
Anyone going that way can probably put you up on the acres of land I'm about to have. In fact could build our own mx track.
So anybody know of any contacts down there?

Got an offer I can't refuse - so thought we would like the experience - or get used to it! We go in February. So can keep u all posted on riding on the west coast. I might be the first "westy" on KB as I haven't heard or seen anybody else on here from there.

Hey look at their weather at the moment we're in the middle of a rainstorm up here in AK and its forecast sunny down there for the next 8 days (with the odd shower) and has been for the last 3. Every time I mention westport everybody says wet and cold but I don't think it's as bad as all us JAFA's make out. I'll be able to tell you over the next year.
Internet - Yep apparantly there up for fibre soon courtesy of solid energy pushing it I believe.

    A job I can't refuse
Hope all goes well I just read a note in the herald:http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10701307 about the local iwi trying to get a claim on woodhill (the kapara settlement?) and with the recent fire episode i trust it will all come out in your favour.

Westport is awesome. Beautiful town, the scenery is fantastic, the locals delightful, the off-roading (see Mr Jatz on here), I've heard and seen is simply devine...the weather, well you get what you get and the times I've popped down there it's been so hot. Oh and let's not forget to mention the delicious road that is the Buller Gorge.

All the best, you'll love it!

Oh forgot to mention the whitebaiting....that's known as the silly season down that way.

Hi Andy- Its a choice place!- I almost settled there 10 years ago but chose the 'westprt of the north' - Waihi. Look up my good mates Denna and Adrian who own Habitat Sports in the main street- they will soon tell you where to ride - they are into everything outdoors.
What will you be doing for work? where will you be living?
Retired- just some guy with a few bikes......

    Thanks,
Working for Solid energy up in stockton opencast mine. Renting in westport to start with but guess we will buy something soon. Hopefully with some land to ride on. I'll keep posting occasionally like I do on here. Would look forward to entertaining KBers I know from AK on road trips or otherwise. Thanks for the contacts will sure look them up. I imagine everybody knows everybody down there it's such a small town. The high school only has 350 kids for yrs 9-13. Apparently in some of the yr 13 classes there's only 5 kids!

Good on you mate. Sounds like a really good move.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
