But i never understood rugby, it seems just an excuse for thuggery.
In Britain (less relevent here, but not completely irrelevant) they have a saying:

Soccer is a gentlemans game played by hooligans
Rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen
Rugby League is a hooligans game played by hooligans

And to the owner of the DR my sypathies, I know how pissed off I would be...

Sorry to hear about this mate. But I'm with others here, don't fall into the trap of blaming rugby for this incident. Some mindless pricks did this damage, damage they may have committed had rugby never been invented.

I love rugby. I drink beer, I don't go around commiting mindless damage just because of this, and neither do any of my mates that also partake in a few beers and enjoying rugby.

Anyways, I went out with my wife to a light drinkies, hidden and away from any parties and the game tonight, or so we thought. We live fairly close to Carisbrook so... well we thought we'd escape.

Long story short, some time during the night someone from a party up the raod picked up my bike and threw it down the hill.
I had a disk lock too for extra protection.

and I'd picked up the bike on wednesday.

Brand new red DL650, 440 km on the clock because I've been so busy.

    I'm gutted.
The cops don't think they'll get anywhere with this.
But thanks for the help guys, if you read this.
I had a mate who lived on cricket ave, behind eden park.every big game there would be wankers who parked in his back yard and drive if he wasn't home to tell them to fuck off. He'd get home, block them in with his brother's truck and with the help of "security" extract $50 from them before they could get their cars back. This was in '82 so $50 wasn't cheap parking.
On one occasion a prick almost wiped me out as I was turning into cricket ave,the road was full of parked cars so I couldn't do a u-turn and go after him.I went round the block and found the car (a BMW) but the driver had left so I picked up a fresh dog turd with a piece of newspaper and packed it up under the door handles as a surprise for him.

Did they fingerprint the bike? hope they did 'cos there's always that chance the mental midget with the needle-dick that did that has some 'history'.
I am a bit angry, but now I have thought about it sitting here with a coffee and I accept that it is part of life. I think I am a little glad say I didn't put the first scratches into it, I've been riding it like a nana so far and have inch wide chicken strips.

SOCO just came over, took my prints, and lifted some off the bike. Apprently the house up the road have an idea who it is and they've got a criminal record so fingers crossed. They admit that their party got a bit out of hand with watching the rugby.

Don't get me wrong: rugby is a great game. I understand why it has become part of NZ culture and why there is so much hype. And a lil aggression and competition in a controlled environment is a good thing, just like us speeding around on track day. But the level of alcohol and violence that comes with it from the spectators is the bit I don't like. I've had people dance on my roof before on rugby nights, students throw bottles at our house, my car keyed, but the trouble has only happened when there has been a big game in town. If we were in England and my bike got trashed by soccor hoolagins I'd say the same thing about them.

The damage isn't too bad in daylight. Bent brake lever and peddle, scratched farings, screen and tank, smashed indicator. There were globs of oil in the gutter on the night and I was worried there was damage and leaking from the brakes or radiator, but it hasn't left a mark now that we've transported it back home.

It could be worse, I'm glad I got insurance sorted out the day before I picked her up. If I was a lil more mechanicly minded I'd try putting her back together myself but... I'll leave it to the shop boys this time.

I'm about to go write a letter of thanks to the newspaper about how helpful the police have been.

I`ve never heard of any violence here connected to Rugby.BUT we have serious social disorder all over the country at weekends, where I live the Police and Paramedics have actually set up a "field hospital" to treat the injured and hopefully get crimes reported straight away in clubland,I believe there`s the same thing in Cardiff as well. You think your Rugby crowds are bad,we`ve had several deaths here amongst soccer fans and organised violence was once all part of of what was going on up and down the country. There have even been cases of rival soccer fans fire-bombing a train carrying rival supporters home.Seems to have calmed down considerably now,we have segregated crowds, massive police presence at potentially volatile games e.t.c.But still not easy to explain to foreign visitors that riot-police and overhead helicopters are there to keep an eye on spectators at a sporting event.I`ve been to N.Z and never felt threatened anywhere, here I keep a wary eye out whenever I`m out and about after dark and with good reason.Street crime in my area is still fairly rare but we have had muggings within a few hundred metres of where I live and every ground floor flat in my little estate has been burgled at some point since I moved here 14 years ago.We also have police and security guards in our hospitals now as staff are assaulted on a regular basis.Un-like your experience students drink heavily here but rarely cause any hassle.Latest craze here amongst the scum that populate this island is to thump people while photographing the assault on one of the new mobile phones and "sharing" with fellow retards afterwards. Our laws here mean that if some young tosser takes a swing at me and I hurt him badly I`d more than likely be done for assault, people have been jailed for defending themselves before now.N.Z. might be getting worse but you`ve got a long way to go yet before you hit our level.

Its OK to smash your or someone elses head in while playing Rugby, you will be regarded as a National Hero , even though you dont pay ACC fees & will clog up A&E. Hurt youself while riding a bike & you will only be regarded as a temporary NZer or at best an organ donor

sorry to hear about your bike, good to see the typical 'all students are drunken bastards' steriotype coming up once again, see thats whats needed around here more prejudice, asian drivers, maori/pacific islander thieves, shifty car dealers, and of course drunken disorderly students, i think it's high time us bikers had a 'bring back the biff' campaign to reinstate our former reputation!

Not 100% sure of this, but I understand that Rugby clubs have to pay an ACC levy for each registered player.
