    New road markings

    http://www.aucklandtrains.co.nz/2011...arkings-trial/

"NZTA is to experiment. The new road markings will provide greater separation between each lane of the highway. A median approximately one metre wide will be painted as a series of dashed white lines on sections of the highway where overtaking is allowed and as solid yellow lines in no overtaking areas. In places, rumble strips will supplement the markings."

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Can't see providing a visual separation being a bad thing, worth a go IMHO
Watch out for tow ropes and quickly braking cars

The technicality that allows lane splitting, if applied to the left-hand of the two lines, will prevent legal lane splitting by there not being enough room any more.

(If cars legally have to stay to the left of the left line, the same law would make bikes have to, too. i.e. we'd not be able to ride to the left of the right line - between the two lines.)

Are they going to change the letter of the law to cover these new lines?

They're also fairly effective at stopping motorcyclists, permanently... I say go with the lines.

The government really should invest in some paint for the roads which isn't as slippery as the paint "they" currently paint the roads with. Slippery when dry, lethal when wet.
