Oxford sports grips not as hot as standard grips

I've installed 2 sets of Oxford standard grips and both get as hot as Satan's home when set to 100%

However my new sports grips (wired exactly the same way - heavy duty wire off the battery via the same Narva relay I've used on the others) don't get near as hot at 100%.

In fact in the middle of winter 100% won't be good enough.

    Any ideas why?

    Thanks for the feedback.

It might be the magura alloy bars on the Speed triple. Maybe they're better at disappating the heat compared to conventional chromed steel bars.

Out of interest do you have regular steel bars on the Bandit?

PS: Having though about it - the throttle grip should be the same on all bikes (as it is plastic). therefore if both grips don't get mighty hot - maybe it's the controller.

Out of interest - how "bright" are the LEDs on the switch panel? Mine are fairly faint (the LEDs on the standard grips panel are very bright)

The controller will have a solid state triac or similar switching the load from a micro. Sounds like the controller might be fuct.

I've got some Oxford hot grips on my new to me Speed Triple I'm about to take off. You can have them for comparison when they come off.

Thanks man that would be great. I would be interested in trying different parts. Of course the grips won't come off easily - but I don't think they are the problem. They get warm so I'd expect them to be on or off.

Thanks for that. I'm an electronics dunce but a reasonable troubleshooter (at least via process of elimination and swapping things out systematically until the problem component is identified).

I have gone from the standard, to sports grips (different bikes) and find they put out about the same heat level.

Also gone from the old style controllor, to the newer style controllor and the lighters are definitely dimmer on the new type controllor.

I took one of mine off by accident in the weekend when I put some silicone between the grip and the throttle bottle to try and make it rotate better, and it dissolved the glue after about 5 mins.

I use my own brand called "harden the fuck up" They look like factory grips, they feel like factory grips and they're warm as factory grips.

Yeah, but mummy told me to keep my hands warm (or I might get a blister). Plus I have to be home by 10pm each night.

No worries. My new ones should arrive tomorrow so they'll go on Friday. Drop me a PM
