Lightbulb Masterchef ADV style. Who is keen?

Clint and I were thinking about organising a central north island ride later in the summer, when we came up with an evil plan

    The Masterchef Adventure ride

Think of it as the evil twin of the CCCC ride: gravel roads, camping, good food, beverages... except you have to carry it all there on your bike

The constraints of adventure camping means that the food will be quite different to the CCCC, but that doesn't mean we have to survive on freeze-dry...

I would supply recipes ahead of time (matched to cooking abilities), everyone cooks up their designated dish (maybe in pairs? who knows), then we enjoy our Masterchef buffet, while critiquing others cooking abilities.

Recipes would be chosen so that they are suitable for adventure touring: easy to prepare, ingredients you can (usually) find at the supermarket, non-perishable and pack fairly small.

Is this a good idea? If so, where would be a good place to camp?

Simple dishes like smoked salmon tepanyaki and easy to carry pudds like pavalova

Sounds like a great plan but it is in the wrong island!

I got the idea from Chris's Pureora ride report, where he was away from home less than 48 hours, and had to resort to cooking some dodgy looking freeze-dried thing.

I don't think Gordon Ramsey will be able to make it. I can arrange for someone else to swear at you while you are cooking, if you would like.

Pick a route suitable for my ever so tentatively adventurous bike & I will contribute the finest camp fire curry known to humanity & we can all do a rousing rendition of the Auckland Philharmonic brass section after a couple of beers or play who can fire a peanut the farthest without shitting themselves. PM for peanut farting rules & technique.

Ahh, the joys of sleeping under the stars.

In S.E Asia on holiday... You on a tight budget? Is this for a main meal of dinner or brekkie? Two great staples by the way....Canned potatoes dressed with Horopito..(found in the bush of course) and baked beans drizzled with Watties Red Aioli...

Sounds interesting Rosie, we will need some one with a KLR to carry the BBQ tho!

I will hunt out my gas cooker and practise campfire recipes, how about somewhere near a lake or river so we can fall in and practise drowning as well.

Yeah, we can just have a beer drinking contest. How many cans can you get in your luggage (and consume)?
