    Early Yamaha ID?

Hi all, i need a bit of help to ID a bike.

I just pulled this out of my neighbours shed, it's missing a few bits but he said they will be in the shed somewhere, so will have to have a rumage, but f*ck me you would not believe the size of the spiders and cockroaches in there lol.

I have the old reg/ownership papers and it's a '64 250cc 2 stroke. So i did some research but haven't come up with any definative answers. It was blue so i thought it may be a YDS3 but on further inspection i don't think it is as the front guard and tail light housing is different, also the YDS's didn't have fully chrome tanks.

Any help advice would be much appreciated as i'm stumped lol.

Can't help you with what model it is but it's certainly a bit of a find.

First NZ reg' was 4-3-64, so quite possibly a '63

Yeah it certainly is a FIND lol. I've thrown out things in better condition, but i think it's worth saving.

Certainly is worth saving provided it can be saved and is done well.

Wonder how long that's been in the shed

There's some work to do there, but got to be worth the effort for someone, old jappas like that don't turn up every day.

Been in the shed for approx' 25 years, it had an odd firing problem (hence the missing side cover) then it became all too hard and was forgotten about.

With a bit of patience i think i'll get it finished.

I'm a custom painter/artist and have built many a award winning car so a lil ol bike doesn't scare me................................................ ....i think LOL.

Do you have a frame number?

It is a YD3, the "touring" version.

The sports YDS3 was much more popular here (as in pics in the post above this).

YD3s are as rare as rockinghorse droppings, world-wide (even new, I think only about 40 went to Europe new).

    Yep,

    Frame # Y13-34380

    Engine # D6-34428.

Now from what i can find it looks like it's a YD3 but engine # comes up as a YDS2 number.

    Now i'm more confused lol.
