Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.
What I wanna know is: What's a biker and why would I care if I was one?
Until three or four years ago, I never rode on the street, apart from transport sections. This was despite buying my first bike in 1977. In the 27 years since, I've raced at National Level, been pit crew at several MotoGP's, served on my local club as El Presidente, been a District Steward and generally had a fantastic time with various forms of motorcycle sport.
So if someone I've never met doesn't consider that I qualify for a title I've never quite understood, I think I'll get over it....
Interesting, does you wife own a car or do you both use bikes / public transport / taxis only ?.Originally Posted by SpankMe

I have told a couple of girlfriends "thanks, but no thanks" because they would just not get on the back of the bike no matter how much I tried to persuade them. Pity, they were rather nice. But theres always plenty more that are willing pillions that enjoy riding. My current partner, our KB shirt model, will jump on the back rain or shine without hesitation and she doesn't own a car.Originally Posted by Mooch
She has also carried some rather large packages on the back as well.
I used to know a woman who never drove a car,she didn't even go on her last trip on 4 wheels, they took the body off her sidecar and mounted the coffin on the sidecar chassis. She rode a sidecar all her life, bringing up a couple of kids, shopping, everything on her sidecar, pretty committed if you ask me.
Lots of reasons to ride a bike, lots of reasons not to ride a bike,I just go with the flow....
In and out of jobs, running free
Waging war with society
Ha ha ha. This post has really exposed our feelings for not being Hard core bikers. Anyway all you guys and gals that chose options 1 and 2 please identify yourselves when on the road cos we cage drivers will get the red mist and then reinforce the reasons you hate cages. Just kidding.
Good to see you have uncompromised standards. Out of Interest how many of you are over 35 an age when real bikers are entering their prime years and have shown they have not lost the passion for riding.![]()

God I'm sick of riding to the Dairy, It takes sooooo long to get my Rossi replica leathers on.![]()
I just clicked option 4, before I'd even read any posts. I found the whole "holier than thou" / "more staunch than youse fullas" thing smacked of a chip on someone's shoulder or summat.Originally Posted by motobob

I'm not as hard core as the two Filthy Few gang members I saw in the 70s, who both had their left legs in plaster (altercation with a ute) on a Triumph. The pillion carried the crutches.
I'm not as hard core as OneArmedBandit.
I'm not a 'real biker' because I enjoy driving good cars on winding roads. (But I do admit to driving crap cars on winding roads and wishing I had my bike). And sometimes I honestly prefer driving to riding. Life's too short to do things because you should, rather than because you want to.
I commuted by bike every day in Christchurch, including two days when it was snowing, apart from the odd times I had to take the car to drop kids off. And the one time when I took the bike only as far as the first intersection, and decided black ice wasn't a good idea, especially when one couldn't even walk on it, and the 4WD was slippin' and slidin' everywhere. If I was hard core, I would've gone and put some screws in the tyres, hardened up and rode.![]()
I know I'm not hard core like SpankMe, especially after reading this:

... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
and how does one transport 2 kids on a bike.... to school... with schoolbags ....in the rain....Originally Posted by SpankMe
