Presumably the officer has a speedometer? And he was following, so he can at least say "It was in excess of xx kph " ?

Strictly speaking I believe he does not even need that. There have been convictions just on the basis of an estimate .

Are you sure it was Roo?

Quite correct ... got one just a few weeks back (a driver convicted, not me). Judge quite happy with someone (me) giving a speed estimate with 8 years experience behind me.

Yeah, had a similar situation in Christchurch 6 years back.

Cop (nice guy too) chased us from Burnham to Chch on SH1. 3 of us on bikes, just mucking around. The dude said for the 13km he chased us, his average speed was 164kph, therefore that's what he'd do us for.

We all had a good old chinwag and a laugh about it at the side of the road and he sent us on our way.

Couple of months later it was off to court (no one defended it, that's just dumb), get a letter "50 demerits and $500".

Okay, so you're man enough to admit you're a hypocrite, but I don't see too many others lining up behind you admitting the same.

There is no evidence, only the word of an officer who has no idea how fast you were going. Don't forget, you don't know either..... and you were riding as you always have, just like when you got your motorcycle licence. Your not aware that you were riding in any offensive way,
Sorry, Dafe, don't take this personally, but you're living in a parallel universe mate. A cops word is gold. Seldom does a judge ever not believe everything the cop says. If he said his radar clocked you at 253km/h on your GN250 and he cleared the reading hoping to get a higher one before he pulled you over therefore couldn't show you the reading - it would be up to you to get the little chinese guy who puts those bikes together to fly to NZ, pull out his calculator, show the judge the blueprints, and prove to him that it was an impossibility for that bike to go that fast - even with Trashy on it. And even then there's a possibility the judge would ignore the laws of physics and side with the cop.

Because COPS NEVER GET IT WRONG!!

Hell, I got convicted for careless driving because a police car attempted to pull be over and nearly crashed into the back of me when I pulled over and stopped - just like I thought you were supposed to do when a vehicle with flashing red and blues appears behind you. Seems the brakes on a Group N Mazda 323 are more effective than a high-mileage Commodore.

think it was aus where a little lady got clocked for some ridiculous speed, so she said car cant go that fast, they tested it at a track and guess what, car couldnt go that fast.
