    Honda Kids Camp

    Whose going this year?
We are booked for Waiotira next weekend but giving Raglan a miss - too busy last year.
Considering a road trip over easter weekend to Masterton

For those that haven't been to Waiotira, I highly recommend it.
Great selection of tracks but nothing overly difficult - most of the kids in our group were able to ride the "red" tracks.
Greg and Robyn (Honda Kids Club) run a great event.

I was all set to take the kids to raglan until I went to the site and saw it was going to cost $380!. That's pretty steep. What do you get for your money?

Taz, yeah they aren't cheap but still worth while IMO.
You get 2 1/2 days riding over some pretty good tracks (normally) from 8:30am till 5pm. All the adults there are parents so if your kid goes down you know somebody will be there pretty quick to give them a hand.
They provide hot showers, clean toilets and normally pretty good camping venues eg creeks nearby for cooling off (Whangamata camp has private surf beach!).
Entertainment at night includes tug of wars, fireworks, night walks and finishes off with prizegiving on Sunday

Yup, twice. Went to the Whangamata one, which was pretty cool (and closer to home), but had a bit more of a step-up from the kiddie trail to the bigger ones. Waiotira is easy all over, except some bits of the reds. Maybe there weren't as many different trails at Whangamata, but the beach trip was cool. Best to take the 4WD and leave the bikes at camp - too much faffing and dust on the bikes, with the gear and stuff, but how often do you get to ride your bike to the beach? (I say 4WD, you could probably do it OK in a soft-roader, just not your own one...)

Waiotira next weekend. Happier to let #1 son fang about with a bit less supervision there, #2 is just onto 2 wheels and needs to think about it as a powered bicycle, not a 2-wheeled quad. His riding improved heaps at Whangamata, but it would have been easier-going at Waiotira. Still, he did it, and he'll go well now!

As to the costs, think of it as a family weekend away, not a long trail-ride and it makes more sense. Going with only one adult bike and 2 kids of very different speeds doesn't make sense - I must work on that one.
