If these http://www.carbonmotors.com/machine were available the distraction would have been contained. I guess perspex spit screens will eventually be fitted.....right after they get AVL/MDT etc working.

But seriously, how the hell do you go through an intersection that you have not seen the lights or not sure if you have the right of way.
Self preservation would have kicked in for me and I'd of stop short because I don't want to injure /kill myself or anyone else, not knowing of the situation.

That is why I do not believe the reason for a minute.

Shit your right now you mention it, they don't. They didn't even hand cuff us when we we're arrested & the 2nd P.I.G. sat up in the passengers seat, bout the only "security" they did have was the child lock on the doors

We've all of us ended up on the wrong side of the road after cutting a corner , luckily most if us don't collect the big truck.
This poor bloody copper will be charged, nothing surer.
Scummy is right, nothing to prevent a back seater causing real damage to a driver or other front seater.
Bout time we gave em simple protection devices that make it impossible for this to happen instead of bitching about who is or isn't going to be charged.

He didn't end up on the wrong side of the road by cutting a corner, he ran a red light as reported.
If he was distracted he should have stopped, put the foot on the brake, pull over, drive defencively, be in control.

There is NO excuse for cutting a corner and NO excuse for running a red light. What if the silly woman had taken me out on my bike instead of another plodster? I would have been very seriously injured and my bike trashed, and I ride on those roads every day, so it's a real possibility.

There was another cop in the back seat and the passenger was a woman, so the feeble excuse that she was kicking the cops seat just doesn't cut it. The reality is a police officer, a professionally trained driver, made a seriously stupid and potentially fatal mistake while in control of nearly 2 tonnes of steel and glass travelling at 50 kmh - around 15 metres per second. Nobody, LEAST OF ALL A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER has any excuse not to focus completely on the task in hand.

If she was unable to do so because of the distraction of the passenger in the back seat, and if her colleague was unable to control the passenger she should have pulled over and called for assistance.

i have absolutely no sympathy for a halfwitted amateur who crashes a red light and nothing but contempt for a so-called professional. And I bet she would have had the gall to lecture me on road safety if she had pulled me up for doing 105 kmh on an empty country road.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

If they're not, then they should not be allowed behind the wheel, and that's yet another argument against arming police
