I've straightened the frame of my old XL250R. Put it on the centre of trailer with tie downs like normal. Then used a ratcheting tie down to pull it back into shape. May have whacked it with a rubber mallet a few times too.
Requires you to strategically tie the bike down so you bend the right parts back into shape.
so when you gave it a couple nudges with the hammer what part of the subframe did you hit?
The other way I was told is to put out the centre part of the subframe, bed back adn get it rewelded.
i straightened mine with a body jack, and a rubber mallet. i took all the rear plastics off so i could judge if it was centre properly, its quite springy stuff, so you have to push it past its bending point for it to "spring back" to centre, do it on the bike otherwise none of the mounting points will align up again
SHE LOOKED UP AT ME WITH BLOOD IN HER EYES
THEN HER SKIN FELL OFF
AND SHE PROMPTLY DIED
IT WAS EBOLA, LA LA LA EBOLA
just lay the bike on the ground and jump on the back of it
Sub-frames can be a complete pig to straighten. Getting a bit of heat onto it with a gas torch can make things easier, but also can soften the metal so that it just keeps bending and eventually snaps with further crashes. If you have a mate with a decent bench vice, you can try and work on specific parts of the sub-frame with a large rubber mallet.
Mate’s son had a genius idea when he went down hard on the left side on his RM and bent up the sub-frame… crash really hard on the right side of the bike on the next ride and push it all back in place. Worked a treat!
I bent mine to the exhaust side too. I straightened the sub frame by taking the plastics off then found a length of pipe that went over the end of the sub frame on one side, using the pipe as leverage I was able to bend it back pretty good. Otherwise if all fails lie it down and jump.
i bent a subframe once, tried straightening but it never really goes straight again, it looses its strength and twists again easily, ended up getting a second hand one from the states real cheap!
