i my be wrong but you might have to remove the 2 side panels, there could be a screw or small bolt at the front of panel and the back should just clip on. and you might find the seat has a bolt on each side.. towards the rear of the seat...

On my xt 600 there are two bolts underneath the seat accessed by reaching underneath the mudguard and above the back wheel.....

Indeed, as far as i can remember you need to remove both side covers and then unbolt the seat before it comes off.

Seeing as I spend more time taking the seat off my DR250 than riding it I feel reasonably comfortable in confirming that.
    1. Remove the side covers.
    2. Remove the bolts at the rear at the seat, 10 mm socket is the one you're after.

I also spend more time on trademe sighing than I do working on my DR250

    There is no key
What year 250 have you got there ?

On the two 350's you gotta remove the sidecovers then unbolt the seat....
The 250 just has 2 hex head bolts to remove through holes in the side covers

The Tenere had a key on one side and a button on the other, Perils old one should be the same ? Our F650's had key locks as did the Triumph.

That always used to sh!t me on my DR-Z250 that it took about 6 different tools to get the seat off - two fasteners on each sidecover, different ones each side. And some were under the air filter cover IIRC.

The smart way is to cut a hole in the sidecovers, 15mm diameter, right on top of the seat mounting bolts. Then it's only a 10mm socket on each side and the seat is off.
    Cheers,
    Colin
