Arrow Waiouru: Tussock Buster, 25-27 March 2011

I noticed that a few people are planning to go to the Tussock Buster this year.

I missed it last year due to finding out about it the weekend it was happening(bugger), so this year I figured I would put a thread up to see if we can coordinate a meet up with a few of the adventure ride crew, and hopefully inform a few more people so people do not miss out on it just cause we don't browse the offroad forums much.

I was thinking of doing for the full weekend, camping with tent at the Waiouru Rugby Club grounds.
I figure I would ride down Friday, and have a gentle ride on friday evening (after the 400km to get there, I may feel like a rest instead), go hard for saturday. Ride sunday morning, then head north and camp a night somewhere northward (thinking maybe Pueroa forest).

Or ride down friday camp up, then trail ride saturday and make my way home on sunday.

I guess it will probably depend on how much work I have at the time and how my ride fitness is, 2 solid days of trail riding would be a bit much for me right now, but I am working towards being a bit fitter.
And being this is 2 weeks after Carys Coromandel ride, and 2 weeks before the KCAR, there is plenty of riding going on around March/April.

Sooooooo.... anyone else thinking of going/what are your plans?

I'll be up there but doubt if I'll be riding. Living in Waiouru till June...booo.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

I've got a more suitable ride on the way.

I will be there on the little bike, probably staying in Ohakune (old age and creature comforts etc) and planning on getting there early friday so I can get a half day in then.
Great country to ride Chris, you'll enjoy it.

oh yeh? what are you getting?

As for riding, I will seriously have my ring gear hanging out now till late May and I'll be away from home so riding is really taking a back seat. Actually thinking about putting rego on hold till June to let me get to the carbs, relace the front wheel and repair the plastics. I've just picked up a new MTB and that's quite satisfying for having a blat on.

But yeah, sorry I don't think I'm gonna be much good to anyone till mid year.
