    Be careful out there

I was heading to work a couple of days ago when I noticed a rider on a Honda NVT 400/650 waiting to turn south onto the Northcote Road on ramp. I was in the car and moved onto and down the on ramp in the usual 1.5 kph flow.

The NTV rider rode up the LHS of the traffic on the on ramp (nothing wrong with that - I do it myself), and then he moved off through the traffic.

Suddenly the traffic stopped dead, and about 15 minutes later I passed the NVT rider lying on the road being attended to by ambulance staff - didn't look good.

I've seen this rider quite a few mornings and he always rode in a responsible manner, so I don't think he would have done anything stupid, but I'm guessing he didn't see a car changing lanes and got taken out.

Personally I don't have any problem with riders lane splitting, but please be careful out there and treat everyone like their going to kill you - works for me......so far.

I had enough near misses when I was riding in SoCal decades ago to cure me of lane-splitting...
