Thumbs up Are you tempted by trackdays, but it's a bit daunting?

    Hi all.
I just want to let novice bikers here know that the Victoria Motorcycle Club is running a track day at Manfeild on Sunday 20th of February. If you are tempted to get onto the track in a controlled and safe way, this is your opportunity. I am running the day and am committed to ensuring that those in the Novice group are given an especially positive experience. The Novice group will be led at a maximum speed of 120kmh. Riders are able to go faster than this of course by hanging back and making their way through the group by passing safely on the straights. There will be no passing on the inside of corners (reducing the risk of losing the front during heroic braking manuevours, damn spelling). We are planning to have some experienced club members there to provide support and coaching but we can't be sure how many as Paeroa is on the same day, and many will be there racing. My 14 year old daughter will be out there on her second track day and I am confident that she will be safe. As always, we have the ambulance there to ensure that nobody will fall over.
The cost is $25 for members $60 for non-members. Please ask any questions you may have.

    Sounds like an awesome idea.
Hopefully I will have that weekend free, what are the regulations regarding bikes and gear?

So long as there are no hoons in the novice group you might have me keen to come along and give it a go !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Great to see the interest people. I will get around to answering the PMs later. With regard to safety gear. The tradition is for there to be some flexibility in the novice group.....but the minimum is road legal helmet, motorcycle gloves, solid boots/foot protection, kevlar lined jeans and a textile motorcycle jacket. I'm really ambivalent about the kevlar jeans but we let it slide in the novice group due to the light pace and the generally good behaviour. All will sign an indemnity form as well that reinforces that the risks are yours. It's your skin after all.
From the medium group up I will need to see motorcycle specific clothing providing full coverage. The textile stuff is not what you want to be crashing in when there is the possibility of sliding for some distance, so my preference is to see leather. The odds of crashing are very low at this kind of track day, but it can happen.
Bikes need to be of a safe standard. WOF standard for road machinery. Glass taped up or removed. VMCC tend not to have a formal scrutineering process but I am trying to get some volunteers organised who will be able to do this. Especially as I am keen to have novices take advantage of this, and they may not be as aware of things like chain tension and other safety issues.
Prebookings? My understanding is that we can do this, but there will be no refunds. I may stand to be corrected on this. We will be limiting numbers to around 120, depending on which groups are most popular at sign on.

Absolutely worth it. IF you can handle close to 700kms. Each way.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Will most definitely be coming along, although maybe not in the novice group. Was at the last MotoTT day in the slow group (will go again on the 11th) and that was good, but I really want to build my confidence and improve my corner entry speed - I'm far too cautious and nowhere near the limits of the bike.

Trouble is, I loves my bike and don't want to risk damaging it. Catch 22 eh.

    Looking forward to it.

More than welcome mate. I remember my first trackday on an FZR 750 Genesis. I was lucky that there was coaching available to help me fel comfortable. I still use the advice: "Look where you want to go and don't forget to smile". I was nervous as hell but discovered that I was cautious like you and that helped keep me within my limits.
