Yup, know of a case where "Fail Youth" reading on the tester had a big effect on a claim by a 23 year old.

If people taking out insurance fail to meet all the conditions of the insurance policy contract, the insurer is entitled to withold any payout. It is the same as any kind of agreement - fail to meet the criteria and the deal is off. The message - know your contractual obligations.

Interesting how they allow a vehicle to not have a registration. Can anyone CONFIRM that you can renew a WOF without a current Registration? I had a feeling that you could not. Interesting to hear the result.

You need a CURRENT WOF to get Registration ...

Vehicles can have their rego on hold ... and still be insured (But the insurance company must be informed of this). But will not be covered if it is used on the road at the time.

Confirmed. You NEED to have a WOF to get a rego (vehicle licence), not the other way around

yip it happens all the time. wof is all about weather or not the vehclie is fit for the road and rego is just a licence and acc fee. We get some pretty angry locals down here that take there frustration out on us instead of the insurance company.

    No wonder I was confused.

It would be interesting to know how many insurance policies need both REG and WOF or just the WOF (AND be in a road worthy condition) to comply as far as these two points go.

Standard policy means ... if either is required... both will be required ...

Saw on tv once { so it must be true } a wof isn't always required for insurance reasons BUT you will need to prove the bike/car is up to wof standards befor the crash, and that can be hard if shes a wreck

Because it is better to accumulate some points and lose your license for 3 months than to pay a fine?

I'm not a big fan of demerits - you get punished when caught doing whatever then they come along and punish you a 2nd time because of a few points. Luckily I've not had any demerit points in the last couple of years, but I am still not keen on them.

I hear you - but demerits fuck-up those so rich that a fine means nothing - or those who never pay fines.

sound a bit like the whole boy racer thing dosn't it ( its not our fault why is everyone picking on us we are keeping to ourselves) blah blah blah. If you don't want fines and the hassle with the law just keep your bike legal. simple

Only for some. You and I both know plenty of tossers out there that still drive or ride when suspended or disqualified.

I am all for seizure of assets and forfeiture to the crown, prison hard labour camps and a 10% flat tax rate for all New Zealanders and companies to generate growth and revenue through spending and saving.

Sorry, a tad off topic by the end there.

Flag the fines... they wipe them anyway. Double demerits and enforce vehicle loss or imprisonment for driving whilst suspended or disqualified.

    Don't start me on crime.....
