    used bike salesmen

went to a dodgy looking little bike shop today that i've heard bad things about to look at a rg150 4 a mate.
excellent condition frame, fairings etc. looked like it'd been kept relly nice. only thing was it's done 35k and hew wanted 3g for it.

when i asked if it'd had a rebuild, he looked like i's asked a personal question and snapped.. not that i know of.. why would it need one?
i explained that i was under the impression that they need a rebiuld after about 25k or so

i think he took advantage that i was a 17old on my own and told me a bullshit story about how he'd been selling bikes for a long time and never heard of these bikes needing a rebuild even after 40 or 50k.
i this a valid statement or is he just as i excpect trying to decive a 17yo like myself and just trying to make a sale. i told my mate to look elsewhere as there are alot of rg150's out there with alot less clicks on the clock for a much more reasonalble price!
correct me if im wrong about the rebuilds though

I would expect a small high reving engine like that to have needed a top end job at some stage. But possibly not a complete rebuild.

However, from his attitude you are right to look elsewhere.

From what you're saying, his attitude could do with a little 'adjustment'. If this is the service you're getting now, just think about what it would be like after your friend has parted with his money.

Is that the one at Cycle City?
    Saw one outside there yesterday.
If thats what he was saying he was just trying to make the sale. His background is mainly in Dirtbikes I believe. But you'ld think that he would know that small 2/ motors need a freshen-up after 25000 odd km.
If your keen, bring it round to me and we'll do a compresstion test on it. I would think it would be ready for a new piston kit by now. Not a hard job to do yourself.
$3000 is the shop asking price. I certainly wouldn't offer him any more than $2500 with some warranty. Better to buy one privately for $1500 - $2000.

Aren't these bikes $3k brand new? I knew the RGV150 was, and after five years was still worth about two.
Probably overcharging, or shows how much he knows.

uh huh! Got that in one...

Time to look elsewhere about the bike. Might be fun to send in someone a little older... see what they get from the same guy.
