2004 CB600 Hornet

As gas prices are on the way up and me Dodge Ram only gets 18mpg on my 50 mile round trip to work I am looking at buying a 2004 CB600 Hornet.
It is all stock, one owner, 26k miles, not dropped and regularly fully serviced by a dealer.
Are there any inherent or common issues or probs. with these?

Awesome wee bikes , go really well ...not owned one myself but riden with a few and the owners seem to love them ..... there no slouches either . I've had a go on a cb900 hornet and they seem ok to me ..... I read a thread on the 919 forum where some guy owned his from new and had over 100k miles on his (he was in the states) with nothing but regular services and maintainance.... seems like a good choice with the price of gas these days .

You will find them to be just a sweet ride to have, Sharry loves hers and they will certainly tick the boxes for many of your requirements. How come you aren't going for a CB900 Hornet?

I owned one of these and hated it. Vibrates lots and crap fuel economy. They do have a robust bulletproof engine though. Just wasn't my cup of tea I suppose.

2004 21k miles barely a scratch on it, motor sounds brand new and rides like it too. Totally stock. Paid $2200USD
The orig owner spent shit loads on serviceing, tires, new chain and sprockets.
Should be a good gas saver for me.
Got some good used gear off of Craigs list too. A like new Alpine stars padded summer riding jacket for $25 and a heavier Bellstaff padded jacket for $40.

Na mate, this is my gas saver for the 50 mile round trip to work each day. The price of gas is steadly climbing and if/when it hits $5 a gallon I don't want to be driving my 16mpg dodge.
Nothing else has changed.

I had a 600 then a 900 after that.To be honest i preferred the 600 it was flatter down low but has a real sweet rush after (from memory) 7000 rpm.Mine had over 40,000 k on it and never missed a beat.I traded it on a brand new 900 and missed the 600 straight away.
It was a fucken grouse bike all round and also handles 2 up a piece of piss, buy it you'll love it.

Had a 919 for about two years, it was great but got a bit "work horse"ish for me. Wasn't much of a thrill.

Just yesterday bought a new 2010 Hornet 600 with the upgraded inverted forks and, to me, it is just way more fun and engaging than the 919. Absolutely love it.
I would even go so far as to say that I like it even more than the CB1000R predator! I'm sure it's just personal preference but I have just gelled with it and appreciate it over the others greatly.

My wallet sure appreciates the lower rego fees, fuel cost and insurance also!

I've seen many Hornet 919s (and a few older 600 models) go to 100,000 MILES and even beyond. By the sounds of it yours has only just been run in!

You'll be sure to have a blast on it mate!

Sounds good, pix please. How much did it cost? Also, how much is one years rego and insurance?
I am beginning to compare the general living costs between here and NZ so I know what I am looking at when I move back. I pay about 200 per year insurance, assuming 6 months useage as it snows here and tags (rego) is about $50 per year. Gas is the biggie between the 2 countries, $3.50US a gallon here(3.7L) = $1.30NZD/liter.
Maybe I will start a thread on this topic...

Woah, I think you may notice a bit of a difference.
I have a 900 Hornet, insurance is about $700, Rego is over $500 and rising, gas is $2.15/L and rising.

Called the 599 in the states - you'll love it.

Lots of goodies available too .............

Running costs are significantly cheaper in the states - even consumable like oil filters US$8 or in NZ NZ$28! I've ordered bits ex USA 6 times cheaper than the same Honda factory part in NZ. Our poor dealers are being screwed somewhere before they get to retail a part in NZ.
