    Cog Smoking KTM

    Hi,
i have a ktm exc 400 which started to smoke a fair bit from the exhaust at the last ride, i have oil coming out of the exhaust as well.
    Any ideas??
Is it time for a top end rebuild? or a complete one?
I bought it a few months back..so don't know much about it..

What year is it and how many hours......?

I take it you've changed the oil a couple of times, washed the airfilter after every ride etc...?

The rings will be stuffed the breather pipe if its still starts will be pushing out a heap of air as well due to the compression leaking past the rings. time for a top end rebuild but would pay while apart to check bore etc is still in spec do the works to cover it all valve seals etc

thanks barty5, looking at rebuilding the entire engine for some peace of mind.
struggling to find a con rod kit for it. have found a forged piston on ebay, but can't seem to find anyone with a con rod kit for her.
Motox parts does not have the piston , valves or the con rod kit...
does anyone know where i could secure the parts from for this model.
didn't know its going to be such a drama looking for parts...

I appreciate all the help and suggestions posted, thanks guys..

That was my reason for passing on that model, there was one on offer at the time I was looking and was a fair bit cheaper than the one I got (450EXC) while still being a decent bike.
