    Help a Dunedin Wannabe!

Hi guys, new to this forum. Real keen to start, but I'm brand new to biking so I need someone to teach me the basics, enough so I can pass the Basic Handling Skills Test. There are companies that teach for $90/hr and as a struggling student that's simply out of my reach at the moment.

What am I trying to say? Well I'm hoping one of you nice forum members from around Dunedin would kindly teach me the basics. I would need to borrow your bike and helmet etc. I'm more than happy to pay for your efforts, but I can only afford about $20/hr, plus I'll pay for petrol/maybe a drink afterwards.

If anyone is keen just send me a message.
Can't wait to get into it.

Look up Nighthawk or TigerTim or phaedrus, they can help.

Yup what Scummy said, if your in Dunedin hit up VTNZ they recommend a fella called Warren Joyce I cant recall the cost but if you ask to do your handling cert and ask for a training coarse also, he does puts you around the test track part and teaches you the basics, and he will most likely pass you if you can do all the coarse while hes teaching you, He will also give you tips and hints on how to do certain parts to insure a pass, So in this instance I would recommend forking out the expense, What kind of bike are you looking to buy and whats your budget? I have one for sale at the moment, also sign up to www.southernrider.co.nz its the same sorta thing as kiwibiker but it is directed more at the south island but it has a big population of people from dunedin

Ahk must have changed everything, If you can provide evidence you have 3rd party insurance/or the funds available to pay for any damages I could maybe help you out, I would have to think on it though, I have a 250 for sale but its still my baby haha

    Hi Tristan, and welcome.
First off, join this site: www.southernrider.co.nz it is dunedin based, with many experienced local riders on it.
I would be more than happy to help you out any way I could. Drunkenmistake below has offered you (potentially!) the use of his 250, if we can work it out, Im happy to help out. Join southernrider, as both drunkenmistake and I are quite active members on there, and we can quite possibly work something out through there, Im sure we can make it work.
Southernrider also does weekly rides as well (when you get a bike!!) that are designed for new riders, and is quite active in the local biking community, so its a good way to get into it all!!

I hope to see you on southernrider, post up a thread and we can work from there!!

Faark. I thought the answer was Wellington, no wonder I couldn't join.

Inch - You are going to need a bike, so you might as well buy one now and then get someone to help you out. I have taught a few people in the past but am out Mosgiel way if that is any use.

EDIT - PS, taught as in unofficial lessons. Warren is worth the money if you can afford it, but to be honest the test is a piece of piss.
