Who has done CBTA Courses in Wellington?

Just wondering how many people out there have done them, where they recommend going to do them (As in Trainers) and how hard it is to write in and get this exemption from LTSA?

I did the CBTA Restricted course today!! Go to www.roadsafe.co.nz. Andrew is the trainer and I think he's a bloody good teacher, he really seems to care and loves actually teaching.

pretty easy to get the exemption, just follow the guidelines...

Don't worry Gramps (Skunk), I'll take it from here.

    CBTA, Competency Based Training Assessment.
I've done it, to shave 3 months of the normal time periods. I did it at RoadSafe, with Andrew Templeton. I'd highly recommend the company, and Andrew.

    From memory, the process was:
I had no hassles getting approval. Andrew (at Roadsafe) faxed me the forms to complete. I did so, and sent them away. A little while later, got the approval letter back. Made the booking at Roadsafe, and attended the course. Since I was already on my restricted licence, I waited until I was eligible for the full licence under the CBTA time frame (I am under 25, if you're over 25 there is in theory NO time frame whatsoever). The course was held over one day, for about 8 hours. It consisted of class room based theory (somewhere in Upper Hutt I THINK!!!), a casual ride out to lunch in the Hutt via Whitemans Valley, an extensive skills session in a large parking lot and finally a stricter set route course, with everyone on the course having a go at riding in the lead. I got the impression that even though everyone thought the test was the last past (the strict set course), Andrew had been watching us all day, and based his appraisal on all aspects of what we did that day.

At the end of it, as it began to grow dark, the course was over and we'd all passed. Got my certificate and off I went. My memory is a bit fuzzy again, but I think the next day I took the certificate and a licence application to the LTSA, paid my fee and waited for my licence to arrive. In that time, I bought a new bike which sat in the garage, teasing me! You can't ride until your licence arrives in the mail (you don't get a temporary licence on the CBTA course).

If you're doing the whole CBTA course from scratch (learners, restricted and full) the process will be different. It would still be a whole lot faster (but ALOT more expensive). The money I paid was worth it, not only did I shave 3 months off my wait, but I learnt some good skills, and got to take a pillion. They don't teach / show that on the LTSA tests.

    Thanks Stoney - you'll keep

I can vouch for Andrew and Lyn, very good trainers. 'Ridesafe' is the business.

Mrs H and did the Roadsafe CBTA course coming up for two years ago (almost sound like veterans!). Top course. Learned heaps. Must do another advanced skills course soon to keep the axe sharp.

If you don't mind, let me know when. I was thinking the same thing, and it would be good to know a few other people there.

Maybe others could come to? Like a group training thing?
